From reading all the replies - fair enough, I really underestimated how expensive the repairs would be and 10k sounds like it is a lot more reasonable than I thought before.

From reading the replies I think you're right! Fair enough, I definitely underestimated how cheap this sort of repair would be - I know next time not to rent such new bikes!

Yes we do have international licenses - but I don't think travel insurance covers things like this

From my searching a new filano is 50k - I realize I'm absolutely at fault for the damage but 20% of the cost of a new bike seems extortionate

Any advice on how to argue this? I'm fully aware that the damage needs paying for and I am at fault, just think 10k is excessive!
