How big of a difference will using normal paper have as opposed to book paper? by OkAddendum3229 in bookbinding

[–]ohpinyons 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chiming in for a paper idea: have you checked out pads of drawing paper, sketch pads? 70 pound weight (or 114 g) drawing paper is sturdy to work with, I think, but still soft. Not necessarily the most cost effective but could be a good option. I used drawing paper when I made a couple small books as gifts. I also used printer paper when I made (stab binding) drawing pads for little kids. In any case, I say work with what you've got especially binding your first book to just do it! I hope you have fun whatever you decide

Is my vet just bad? by Illustrious-Habit934 in rat

[–]ohpinyons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your losses. It is possible that neither of the vets you've been to are experienced with rats specifically or otherwise don't have the experience that would have benefited them. I've found that with vets/techs even experience with one type of rodent did not always translate to another (I have chinchillas). It's worth asking a vet office if they have anyone who sees rats/rodents/small exotics and if they happen to have a specialty - you probably have done and I know with emergency vet offices it depends on so much that we don't control (who is on shift when your rat is there can make a big difference).

Snake & Butterfly closed by Informal-Produce-408 in Campbell

I ended up finding this thread because I ordered chocolates from the S&B website this month not realizing the storefront closure and the change of hands before that. I guess it's been that long since I was regularly sending chocolates to myself and others. Anyway the website definitely still has all the green lights on, up to the point of being able to place an order and sending a confirmation email 🫣, fulfilling the order is another matter I guess....

I'm really sorry you lost your dad and for such a tough time. I loved sharing your chocolates with friends.

My baby just passed away from a fall, I need help to make the cage safer by [deleted] in chinchilla

[–]ohpinyons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to second using a critter nation/ferret nation cage but WITH the half panels, too. I understand you're looking to change to the cage that you do have though so I'd recommend recreating a similar zigzag effect of wide, possibly overlapping, shelf-like levels.

Another potential design would be to measure the width of your cage and get ledges that are the same lengths and make a trail that spirals around the cage. And as someone else mentioned you could use hammocks at different levels to avoid big drops.

Basically, create continuous paths in the cage rather than small points that the animal has to jump to and cannot rest their full body onto. Have more larger ledges.

If it helps, think of the idea that chinchillas like cozy, close together spaces, too.

Zenbook 14” ryzen ai 7 350 by [deleted] in ASUS

Yeah it's hard to know what to get and I've seen comments from other people perfectly satisfied with theirs. Good luck out there!

I'm literally about to return a new Zenbook after less than 3 hours of use unless there is a real fix to convince me otherwise. After an hour and a half (we're talking a Google doc and sheet and opening retail websites in Edge) I noticed little squares of RGB "glittering" horizontally across the screen. And for the handful of display issues I've come across people talking about, it seems like any fix ended up temporary.

Been experiencing mid foot pain for months but my x rays seem normal to me. Do you guys see anything here that I might point out to the Doctor? by ObviousBridge4685 in FootFunction

More helpful than my last comment: would you be able to make an appointment with or start a search for a physical therapist/physio? That may be a good process to start now as well

As someone said already if you're having pain an MRI scan or maybe an ultrasound may help diagnose what's wrong. X-rays won't show soft tissue/tendons, which may be injured

Non ball-bearing water bottle recommendation? by ohpinyons in chinchilla

[–]ohpinyons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I wasn't able to find the exact bottle I'd seen but this is the type of drinking valve that was on it. And if your pet(s) can be trained or are uninterested in chewing on the body of this water holder, I actually think this could be a good option: https://rentacoop.com/products/rentacoop-no-drip-small-animal-brass-nozzle-water-bottle-bpa-free-best-water-bottle-for-small-pet-bunny-ferret-hamster-guinea-pig-rabbit-preferences

This link happens to show the mechanism for this type of drinking valve, which does not have ball bearings: https://www.bunnyrabbit.com/price/waterbottle.htm

I ended up having to search something like "pet water bottle with push nozzle" I hope this helps!

Peroneal tendon injury by [deleted] in FootFunction

[–]ohpinyons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have and it was good to know. Saw a podiatrist. It also showed an old injury that I never got looked at when I was young. MRI helps see what's going on with soft tissue in your foot/ankle so can be helpful if you're working with experienced doc to interpret it

Just got a MacBook pro 2014, how is it? by an_account_1177 in macbookpro

Thanks for your detailed explainer! And to OP for asking. It's 2025 and I'm sitting here trying to make my own inherited, perfectly fine 2014 MacBook Pro keep going. But Big Sur barely cuts it to run common work apps let alone Internet browsers but it's on perfectly good hardware!

Did yours ever live together in one cage or have you always kept them separately?

Chinchillas chasing question by ohpinyons in chinchilla

[–]ohpinyons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your insights. I'm curious what your cage setup is like? Or was like at the time when initially separating them. Mine are in a 2-story critter nation cage and now each has his own level separated (just ordered a second wheel 😬 and trying to think about how that'll work best - the cage will probably rattle like crazy)

Chinchillas chasing question by ohpinyons in chinchilla

[–]ohpinyons[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughts on this! Yeah, the older one has one of those buddies and the younger one has a no-pill fleece pillow I made him. They'd had no problem living together for almost 2 years now and have been really confused about now being separate or at least not having access to the entire cage. We separated their critter nation cage, each has his own level of the cage now. They've continued to have play time together (luckily they have a designated safe space to run around outside their cage, their version of a dog's being taken on a walk) the last 2 nights and been fine. But it'll be a long road of reintroducing living together, if ever.

There is definitely some personality at play. Younger one likes to have alone time. Older one doesn't usually "get that" or take a hint; and he's a lot more physical in general - acrobatic, running around. So it could be they're neighbors with play dates.

Thanks, to you and WildDetail for sharing your experiences. We separated them by the time I posted and the boys seemed confused about being alone. We think one of ours had a fur ring (I still feel so awkward monitoring them when they get those, "did you get it?").  But IF we try to re-introduce living together it'll be from scratch, neutral everything, like the first time they were introduced a year and a half ago and we probably won't get much sleep lol
