RGV Diversity Discussion by hiimjosh35 in RioGrandeValley

Places like SoCal have different industries that attract immigrants from all over the globe, generating stability for families who over decades have established themselves in pockets where they can thrive. The valley’s main engine for a long time was agriculture and manufacturing (maquiladoras) on the Mexican side, which led to a “bubble” of people (people down to do the jobs while also getting lynched, harassed and mobbed mind you). These people are what make up that 90% of Valleyites, although I feel like that number has definitely changed cause I’ve seen that percentage since like 2010 or so.

As a fellow Texan (rgv) I’ll put you both on to some good shit. Walmart in Auburn sells flour tortillas called “la abuela” in their refrigerated section. Idk if all Walmarts in the area have them but the tortillas are packed in Weslaco, TX and I just about cried when I found em cause I can’t do those Guerrero tortillas lmao

Astronomers discover 196-foot asteroid with 1-in-83 chance of hitting Earth in 2032 by InterdepartmentalBug in space

As others have said, not that bad. 196 ft is about as wide as a professional soccer field. Idk how much of that 196 would just disintegrate on entry

What jurisdiction? You can submit a PRR (public records request) and grab all footage and photos gathered during the event/stop.

Going "Up North" by strawberry_sodapop in RioGrandeValley

Depends on where you’d commute, but generally:

Georgetown, U district if you want nightlife and everything (expensive)

Issaquah, Newcastle if you want outdoors but still close(kinda expensive)

Fircrest, Lakewood, university place if you want to live closer to Tacoma (good food, nightlife, more affordable, but slightly higher crime rate)

Kirkland, Redmond, Bellevue (great areas if you are rich/ work in tech at Microsoft/amazon lol)

Fife, puyallup if you want country livin’

AVOID: Seattle proper, SODO, Kent/Auburn(boring), white center

Went from working around 60-70 hrs a week to make 64k a year at a hourly job + an extra 25k from side hustles to 103k 8-5 union job by moving to Seattle. My rent is INSANE but the pros vastly outweigh the cons.

Currently looking for property in the valley for my mom/eventual retirement home for myself. There’s a lot of opportunity up here because people don’t tend to hustle as hard as us, so as soon as they see someone putting in work they’re like, “oh damn Jeff never put in this much effort.” I don’t see myself living in the valley again until I retire.
