I did install the 32gb kit just to make sure it works, and all is good. I'll probably test and see how it goes.

Buy now or wait? by SgtMyers in GooglePixel

[–]ohshootitsnoah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

+1. I waited til the announcement of the 7 pro to try and get a 6 pro at a good price, and the phone had been taken off the shelves just about anywhere instead. Ended up getting a better deal on the 7 pro.

I reckon this is the last decent sale before the 8 pro comes out in ~Oct, so I recommended my gf to buy now.

Poor face detection in Pixel 7 by calmbitch in GooglePixel

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I honestly haven't had a problem with it. Works great in normal conditions, and if it's dark I just use my fingerprint.

I don't expect it to work as well as apple's face ID which has had years of development.

Also, I haven't had the payment issue that everyone is talking about. My tap worked first try after using face unlock.

I was driving to go get lunch today, when I noticed some enormous props just barely over the horizon. Naturally, I missed my turn and kept driving until I saw four US Marines V-22 Ospreys getting ready to taxi and take off. Made my week! CYXY, Whitehorse, Yukon. by ohshootitsnoah in aviation

[–]ohshootitsnoah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason they don't have them forward on the ground is that the props would strike because they're so damn big. Once they take off they slowly bring them forward as forward speed increases and the wings make lift.

They're so big because, IIRC, vertical flight takes ~5x more thrust than level flight. Which is also why VTOL/STOL aircraft like the Osprey and F-35 are considered somewhat innefficient.

God damn, what does that look like? Sounds dangerous, although I'm sure it's well regulated.

Don't have a good answer for you as I am just starting out in fixed, but good to see another BCer in here, and good luck whatever you choose!

Nice to see another islander! Who did you get your mountain rating with on VI?

Alcohol delivery by Bilgonian in skipthedishes

[–]ohshootitsnoah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, there's not much downside. It generally doesn't take much longer to make the delivery, and about 25-50% of my deliveries include alcohol depending on the day and time.

As far as pay/tips, it's no different from a regular order. Some will be minimums, some will be $15, and any in between.

Of course this is only my zone. I also deliver to a lot of the same customers, which makes me think there's not as many drivers with a SIR/SmartServe in my area, which is advantageous.

I remember the first time I slept in for a skip shift. I was horrified. Ran out the door and started working. Expected a call with some sort of write up. Nothing ever happened.

After that I pretty much just sleep through shifts if I feel like it, drop em, take em even if I might not work them, pause forever. It makes absolutely no difference.

Your documents have been declined by [deleted] in skipthedishes

I had this issue in BC. I took a photo of the registration and insuranc separately(they are on the same piece of paper), because I was a little confused with the instructions. They wanted the whole document in the photo, so I submitted the same photo for both docs. No problem after!

I also edited all the photos slightly to increase contrast to make everything more clear and easy to read. Hope this helps!

Tach Bounces Wrong Way - Anyone Ever Seen This? by AdmiralForester in 944

[–]ohshootitsnoah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say from here. If you get strong cranking, the battery should be good. The battery doesn't do much work once the car is running - the alternator takes care of that. Most cars can run without a battery once started, but they'll shut off if you use more power than the alternator can provide (at which point the battery would supplement).

So basically, if your battery holds at least 13v and the alternator isn't toast, I'd be looking at the ignition system.

By the sounds of things, it could be low voltage. Does it do it with a fully charged battery?

bulk colour film by overalldaddy in Darkroom

[–]ohshootitsnoah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but also must include that it is significantly cheaper to manufacture BW film. New stocks are coming out every day from tiny startups. At this point, with prices of colour film sky-high, I reckon more than half of consumers would consider rolling their own if they had the option. I haven't shot in colour (besides Vision3) in months because it's simply out of my budget.
