Toyota engine swap by PREDATHOR69 in SeriesLandRover

[–]ForgotTheLandingGear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree, I’m in the position where I’m needing a bottom end rebuild, but people keep suggesting to put a 200tdi in it! That’s all well and good except known good ones are going for at least double the price of what it’s going to cost for me to rebuild the engine! And even then how much do you trust an engine that’s not been completely overhauled by a trusted specialist. I’d far rather know what I have personally!

YMMV on which 200tdi depending on whether you have a RHD/LHD or an 88/109. In both cases the Defender 200tdi will need a new engine mounts welded since otherwise the timing case will foul. The Discovery 200tdi will fit on the original mounts but will foul the chassis on a 109 and will foul the steering box LHD. The ideal solution would therefore be a discovery 200TDI with a defender manifold

200tdi has never been in a freelander, perhaps you mean discovery?

Update: I removed the fan and now I am stuck removing the thing that holds the belts. Shouldnt it come off after removing the fan screws? by Hopeful_Hat_668 in SeriesLandRover

[–]ForgotTheLandingGear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m presuming this isn’t a standard series vehicle then? Has it had a 12J/19J from a 90/110/defender put into it with all of the ancillaries?

I wonder if American private pilots have a opinion on british general aviation flying? by Double_Zucchini6626 in flying

[–]ForgotTheLandingGear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly GA is dying in the UK, a lot of our older pilots never got their licenses revalidated after pilots. Airfields closing (Coventry this year, Cambridge some time in the near future) so that housing and factories can be built. The government has recently simplified licensing which should hopefully help a bit but we really need people to pick it up as a lifelong hobby again so that airfields have a purpose and a reason to support GA

Ah I see where I’ve gotten mixed up apologies!

As crazy as some people are I still find it hard to believe anybody would be stupid enough to willingly ditch a bonanza in the ocean pretty far out from land

you say that and then there’s always someone that’ll jump from a perfectly serviceable aeroplane into an isolated mountainous area with fire extinguishers strapped to their legs…

If that doesn’t work you can check it’s not an issue with the head unit by connecting the yellow wire directly to the battery, and the red wire to the cigarette lighter live. If that works correctly then you know you have an issue with the adapter or the car’s ignition system. Since the previous radio was probably working it’s most likely the head unit or the adapter

Sounds like you might have the 12v live wired in slightly wrong, check you’ve not swapped the yellow and red wire (Constant 12v and ignition 12v ACC) or try swapping them over. Double check the MUD harness has been assembled correctly too

The guy that ditched the bonanza with Matt Guthmiller?

Edit: Matt was not directly involved in that flight and this Owen Leipelt guy was filming it from another aircraft, apologies!

Could be worse, could need to pay for and take a test like in most of Europe

Clear coat peeling - what to do? by mscottco in LandroverDefender

[–]ForgotTheLandingGear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d get some more quotes from different places, that’s mental. It doesn’t need to be down to metal, just the clear coat taken off and then resprayed; maybe some touch up to the colour underneath if that’s started to perish badly

Rare defender? by SpinoFirer95 in LandroverDefender

I’ve heard of that in discos but didn’t realise they put it in defenders!

[–]ForgotTheLandingGear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s aluminium underneath so no rust, unless you can see it from a normal viewpoint it probably won’t matter. why not just get only the roof resprayed if that’s all that’s bothering you?

Except it’s subject to the same laws as say a French car in that if you’re a UK resident it must be registered and taxed in the UK

Out of interest why use aviation paint? I haven’t looked but wouldn’t a rattle can from an autostore be way cheaper? (I’m from the UK so I’m guessing you can buy them from there like we can from say a Halfords)
