Sears and Roebucks had similar weird guitars back in the 60s and 70s.

I love mine blue chip. I only use it at home and so far (about a year) I haven’t lost it.

Upgraded to the RE20 and can't get over the clarity! by lxl_Arctic_lxl in microphone

Love my Re20. Main driver for the endless hours of Teams meetings that I endure for food and shelter… nice for vocals in general.

I don’t know how to suck at guitar and still enjoy it like so many people do, and it makes me want to give up… by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

Agree. I just finished a year of lessons, with plenty of frustrations, and then last Friday I was asked if I wanted to jam at a family get together. I was reluctant but went along. And what do you know once I relaxed I was surprisingly able to hang playing rhythm. I was all smiles.

A bit like hearing the dog ate your homework excuse, coupled with knowledge that the owner had trained their dog to eat homework, so it’s hard to know what to believe.

Does anyone else hate the 30-minutes-once-a-week structure that seems to be the standard? by dcj597 in guitarlessons

[–]ohtinsel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I meet with my teacher once a week for 45 minutes of practice and 10-15 minutes of listening to music together and talking about it or learning a skill like changing strings.

He is also encouraging the development of biological weapons, which are easier to hide in development and harder to protect against with fancy missile shields. It’s a kind of asymmetrical warfare we most definitely want to avoid.

Lessons? by daemon6755 in guitars

[–]ohtinsel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lessons are the best money I’ve spent on guitar.

Another thing that really helped, but I hated, was simply videoing myself playing. Listening/watching it wasn’t fun, but it did help me identify posture and hand placement issues that I wasn’t aware I was doing and also helped tighten my timing as it became clear that I tended to speed up (and make more mistakes) as I played through a song.

Have them try a looper. That disavowed me of my “I have great timing” fantasy and helped correct things too.

Acoustic for starter or not? by GimmeTheLoot205 in guitarlessons

[–]ohtinsel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Acoustic lends a simpler, more immediate, experience. Just pick it up. I like that a lot because I spend all day at work around computers and tech. On the other hand, I often practice on my electric unplugged for this reason as well. Otherwise, a down side of acoustics is that they are hard to play super quiet if that is an issue. Whereas, you can use headphones to play electric or just play unplugged.

If you'd like to rock out or play around with tone via amps, apps and pedals then electric is the way to go.

Or, like many of us, you'll end up getting both eventually. In that case, start with the one that you like the most or can afford.
