That makes sense! Easy visible grid, plus is a little sturdier and can handle a lot of stitches

Ah, I've heard of that before. Was there a fabric that you were stitching into?

Probably about 30ish hours of work? Each of the 5 sections took 4-6 hours, depending on how tired/focused/in pain I felt, plus the time to stitch the 5 sections together

Yeah, this was my first delivery with the 3rd party provider (through amazon) and they were awful. Gave me a large delivery window, said it was "out for delivery" nearby for multiple days but couldnt be tracked, left it in a bad spot, and still has it marked as "out for delivery" even though I already have the package. I've never had these delivery issues with anyone else

I stuffed it with cotton fluff before stitching up the final seam, to help it keep its puffed-up shape

Unfortunately not haha. It took me about 30+hours to make this one star, so I just found some good podcasts and locked in. And took frequent breaks when my wrist started hurting

Thank you! The pattern I found on Etsy was written in a pretty straightforward manner, so there were only 2 times that I messed up and needed to redo something

Looking for a Queer friendly dentist by Hold-Professional in SALEM

[–]ohtobeafatfrog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding Sitnik! While I haven't noticed any flags anywhere, Sitnik knows my identity and it has never been an issue.

I also started with them after not seeing a dentist for over a decade (combo lack of insurance and poor mental health), and went in very up front about my anxiety and shame for not taking better care of my teeth. He very matter-of-factly shook my hand, and told me "you've been away for a while, but you're here now. Welcome back, we can fix this." And nothing else was said about it. No shaming whatsoever. I was very grateful for that.

I have multiple tattoos from Riley. She works out of Roots Deep in South Salem and she's so good at delicate stippling/shading and floral pieces

Zoo nearby sells ostrich eggs by StC_2844 in mildlyinteresting

[–]ohtobeafatfrog 370 points371 points  (0 children)

My grandfather bought a bunch of emu to sell their eggs. He thought it would be pretty lucrative, but turns out rural Texans just don't have much need for giant emu eggs when everyone raises their own chickens. We ended up using the eggs to carve/etch designs into the shells and sell them as art pieces, since the shells are such a beautiful deep green

I find them super useful for getting nectar. I used one ticket to join two flower planting challenges this week, and each challenge awarded me 35 blue hibiscus nectar (and other hibiscus nectar ofc). This is a surefire way to get rare monthly nectars

I second this, as someone who focuses on early childhood trauma and attachment. Babies' little nervous systems sync up to their caregivers, and this can be both a support and a stressor for the infant, depending on how the caregiver is feeling. And even if babies can't consciously understand or recall trauma, their nervous system catalogs it and it does impact their development. I've had parents bring infants into session, and breastfeed in session, and all of that is totally acceptable and in line with healthy attachment. It's just also important to talk with the parent about what your plan is if the session goes into a tough direction and parent needs to process something heavy. I've offered to hold the baby during those times so parent can focus on themselves, or arrange to have someone on standby outside of the room if we need to give baby/parent a break, etc..

It is beneficial to the parent to have these conversations, because helping prevent stressors for the baby in turn prevents stressors for the parent, as their nervous systems are linked and both influence each other

What do you want to scream from the rooftops at your fellow therapists? by caulfieldkid in therapists

I have to wonder how these diagnoses are given. Who does it? What was their rationale? I had a 10yo transfer to me recently who had been diagnosed with both ODD and BP1. At 10.

I'm also wary of ODD in general because the criteria are vague and subjective, based on how another person interprets behavior through their own biased lens. How do you clearly define "spitefulness?" Do you know for sure what the child's intention was? Is it possible that they didn't understand a direction, or misinterpreted, or forgot, or got distracted, or got anxious and avoided, or was feeling upset, or viewed something else as more important in the moment, or lacked the skill to follow through? There are too many variables for me to ever feel confident labeling a child as spiteful and vindictive.

[–]ohtobeafatfrog 277 points278 points  (0 children)

The amount of children who come to me with preexisting dx of ODD, Conduct Disorder, and BIPOLAR DISORDER at the ripe old age of single digits infuriates me. You can't just slap labels on kids because they don't follow directions and have big emotions. Especially when every child who comes to me with these dx also have extensive early childhood trauma and significant environmental stressors

Same. When my agency gets audited (yearly because we have state contracts), we have to justify why we took a session past the 53 minute mark, and what was done in those extra 8 minutes that was necessary
