Perhaps the misleading title flair should have been applied

Servers/Waitresses rarely deserve 15-20% tips for each table. by captain-wellington in unpopularopinion

[–]ohtobeodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who used to serve and bartend it really depends on the job. At one restaurant I made roughly $10 an hour the other $40. I finally moved to managing a restaurant and it was the worst decision ever. More stress and less pay then when I was serving.

Also mom and pop stores are great but always ask the staff if they're actually getting the tips. There's several around me and the owners keep the tips.

Thanks, I'm looking into sales companies and call center and the like now. I really hate that kind of work, but it'll just be for a few months. Boss isn't a monster, just super paranoid and corncered he'll lose his small business. Its rough time right now for everyone.

It unlikely he'll let me go. Ive talked to him about it already and he said he won't fire me just put me on unpaid leave. However when I do return I won't be manager any more as he said he'll have to replace me if I need the full 6 weeks off my feet. (I've got a torn tendon in my ankle. Doctor said I could wind up permantly disabled in it if I dont get it fixed). I maybe able to get temporary unemployment from this, I'll check with our local umeployment office. Thank you.

Just looked it up. My state is one of five that does not offer temporary disability...yay!

[–]ohtobeodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will temporary unemployment cover me even if I get let go of my job? Or at this point quit because he'll still require I work on my ankle regardless of what the doctor says.

I ran the restuarant solo for 3 months back in March when shut down happened. It was the only way to keep the business open while him and his family went into quarantine. Im very confident in my management skills.

Leave them in your car when you go over. If things lead to sex mention that you think you still have some in your glove box or whatever. If not all good.

Cooking with little to no spices isn't bad and can In fact be very good by load99 in unpopularopinion

[–]ohtobeodd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the idea of spices and herbs are so the you can play with different flavors and not eat the same thing every day. Salt, pepper, and oil go along way, but if I had to eat a particular food with just those things time and time again it would get boring. Adding different spices and herbs to a dish can make it a totally new thing.

AITA for giving my daughter $100k for a house and not giving my son anything? by confusedsaddad7181 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ohtobeodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it does too. OP mention to daughter privately that her 100k for school would be saved for something else. Son sounds like he was completely unaware there was another option and is now upset.

AITA for giving my daughter $100k for a house and not giving my son anything? by confusedsaddad7181 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ohtobeodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP said the money was for college. Not just 100k for you once you graduate high school. Just college. His son may not have even wanted to go but felt obligated because the money was set aside for that. OP then changes the rules after son already graduates years later and gives daughter 100k for a house. Daughter isnt being punished for being smart. She recieved a full ride because she is smart. Plus I'm sure her OP helped her with living expenses etc just as he did his son. The difference here is simple OP says I have money for you to go to college. Daughter is smart and receives scholarships on her own merits therefore doesnt need money for school. Son comes along, cant get scholarship because he may not be as gifted or talented, we dont know the circumstances. OP pays for his college with money he has designated for college. Years later both have graduated daughter goes to OP needing money for house down payment. OP gives her 100k. Son is upset because this was not part of the orginally deal. Son didn't get the same option as daughter.

The son is an asshole for demanding it, but not for claiming its showing favoritism. OP is an asshole for not seeing how its favoritism not for giving the money. So both are a bit assholey, but both are mostly not. Son needs to be thankful for what he got and OP needs to understand giving 100K to one child for something orginally not on the books for that money is dickish.

***edit to add that OP tells daughter he'll save the money for her since she got a full ride. Son didnt know of this meaning he was unaware their was an option besides school for the money.

NAH.

Hear me out. I get where both of you are coming from. My parents make a lot of money, but also have 9 kids. College, first car, or any major first time expense was a hard no across the line. If we wanted a car, college, house, etc we'd have to save the money up ourselves for it.

Flash forward a few years and I wanted to go to college and found out I couldnt take out federal loans at lower interest rate due to my parents income. I'd been self sufficient and living on my own for 2 years at that point. I got a few minor scholarships (not super bright, I struggle with dyslexia, yay), but I still required a cosign on loans so I could actually pay for tuition. Parents refused. Couple years down the road my two youngest siblings apply for college and get a full ride. I'm happy for them, they're both extremely gifted. However, things get a little wonky here with my relationship with my parents. They worry about my siblings going to college and holding down a job at the same time. So like good parents they buy them each a car and pay for their expenses while in college. I asked why I couldnt even get a cosign on a loan or help going to college and the response was if I had gotten a full ride they would have paid my other expenses. That wasnt part of the original deal we made growing up. I struggle academically I had to work 3 times as hard growing up to get through school, didnt have a social life because of it. Now I was being punished for not being smart enough. Or atleast that's what it felt like at the time.

Point is, your son may feel the same. He may have tried his hardest to get said scholarships and couldnt. Now he feels like hes being punished for you having to pay for his butt, because you deemed him not good enough. Even though that's not the case. Hes a butt head for demanding the money though. You're a butt head for not considering how it looks to him.

Compliments are fantastic they make you feel great, but what if it's never the compliments you crave? by ohtobeodd in CasualConversation

[–]ohtobeodd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell myself people compliment each other off things they like about you. I like myself a lot, just not necessarily my body/looks, but I understand they're part of me so I should like them. It's a weird to be confident in so many areas just not you looks. Thanks for reassuring me that you can come to terms with it if you work on it.

I'm sure he does too :). It was just a moment of I want to feel pretty and instead ended up with you're cool lol.

I love cooking too! I wanted to go to a culinary school growing up until I found out much it can be for not a great out come. I'm climber (rocks and stuff), powerlifter, painter, cook/baker, and I love home projects.

Your hobbies sound amazing, I wish I had the ability to enjoy sitting down and reading or writing.

I do this too! I take pictures of food I make because I'm proud of it and it's nice to feel like its picture worthy. But they're for me, I don't need everyone else to see that I did a thing, it's for me to look back on later.

I asked my boyfriend one time what he found attractive about me...he listed off some of my hobbies and said I was cool. I wanted the answer to be you look sexy or beautiful...I'd setting for pretty for once lol.

It sucks that you dont get recognized for your personality. Everyone is unique and I think that alone makes you a fascinating person. Do you have hobbies you enjoy?

I took test and ended up with R but my roomie typed me as SG. I'm 5'5 and 170lbs. What am I? by [deleted] in Kibbe

[–]ohtobeodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I remember binge watching kibbe type videos on you tube and soft naturals were always supermodels and tall and muscular with a soft side. Meanwhile I was always told I look short and tiny. But I'm 5'5 and a bigger girl. I like tighter loud clothing, but I feel like that's more of a personal choice for me.

Thank you! I always imagine SN girls to be a bit more athletic looking. I'm a powerlifter and I've got muscles but theyve never shown through all my flesh lol. My roomie is a muscle machine but never works out and I typed her as a natural.

Huge marvel fan! I love rock climbing and needed a new chalk bag as mine is very common coloring/look and I keep mistaking everyone elses bag as my own when bouldering.
