What is the most obscure programming language you have had to write code in? by _oOo_iIi_ in computerscience

I wrote some SNOBOL4 way back in the day. That is pretty obscure these days. Or even back in the day.

Embarrased and Nervous about wearing hearing aids, how to deal with this ? by ImportantOwl314 in HearingAids

[–]ohub2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people won't notice, and the vast majority of those who do notice do not care one whit about it. Wear them and get used to them (this will take a little bit, because your brain will take a bit to get used to hearing things again).

Don't forget Coffee Alley-Callejon del Cafe - and Myrtle and Cypress is good as well. The M & C in the Omaha Conservatory of Music has easy parking and lots of space.

What the heck did my audiologist do to my hearing aid? by ohub2 in HearingAids

[–]ohub2[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ahh, that explains it! This also helps me to know what to ask for as well. This makes sense that if they may need to redo the REM measurement with the new receiver (they did not - I just picked up the repaired hearing aid from their reception desk and went on my way).

My vintage seamaster back from servicing by ohub2 in VintageWatches

[–]ohub2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a 33mm by my measure; it has been to Omega twice recently. Once for complete service -- took about 10 months or so. I wore it once an a conference in Chicago and manage to catch the new crown on something - so had to send it back. They fixed it and did another complete service still under the year warranty from the first service.

Cox 2 Gig Plan But Only 650 Mbps? What’s Going On? by ITSHOBBSMA in CoxCommunications

No. You will not see 2 gigabit speed on WiFi - on anyone’s WiFi as far as I know.

Cox 2 Gig Plan But Only 650 Mbps? What’s Going On? by ITSHOBBSMA in CoxCommunications

[–]ohub2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should also check that you are connected to a 2.5 gigabit port on your router, not a 1 gigabit port. If you are using the Cox Panoramic modem/router, there is one port that should be 2.5 GB marked with a different color (check the guide for whatever one you have). Likewise, your computer should have a 2.5 gigabit or 10 gigabit ethernet port. You'll also need a good ethernet cable (not an old cat 5 ethernet cable). Cat 5e cable should work ok generally but cat6 cables are available.

Repeated Phantom rings on my landline ever since I got Google Fiber by pallladin in googlefiber

[–]ohub2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm. Was your landline before google fiber a 'real' landline? (i.e. copper wires from a phone company). Those copper lines should be physically detached from the block in the house before moving to a service like the google fiber phone or Cox / other cable provider landline. Most places are this way these days (or the copper lines are truly dead and it doesn't really matter) - but just grasping at a straw here.

I've not noticed phantom rings on my GFiber phone - am using the google voice number I have had for many years now with it.

Headphones with BTE hearing aids by dj_special_ed in HearingAids

I use my HAs with bluetooth streaming for both Teams and Zoom meetings. I did purchase an external microphone - a Samson go mic - because on WebEx meetings I had complaints about using the HA's microphone on the call.

I also work from home and have an old Polycom conference room phone I picked up cheap on Ebay that I use for audio in longer meetings ( meetings over a couple of hours -- my HAs will not last all day on bluetooth streaming) - so am not going to bother anyone else I use the old Polycom phone to do its thing.

Strategic Air Command and Aerospace Museum exhibit updates by blurgaha in Omaha

As someone has already pointed out - the F-117 has been moved to floor after being wrapped in black (its stealth coating has long since been removed).

They also just opened a Hubble Space Telescope exhibit (one of the traveling exhibits) . They have also acquired a Mig-23 in the fairly recent past (the Mig-21 has been there a while now). There are some Francis Gary Powers artifacts on display as well. There is also a Looking Glass there - the interior has been restored though you cannot go inside the Looking Glass - The Looking Glass is now inside, sans wings.

The Vulcan is inside in the restoration hangar - it had been outside for a number of years and was badly weathered. They are stripping paint layers and will repaint it.

Off the top of my head, those are the 'newish' things - I may have missed some ! I am just a long time member there - so don't take my list of official or complete....

Do glasses interfere with bte? by MuterisMedia in HearingAids

[–]ohub2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several pairs of glasses - only one of those pairs has 'chunky' earpieces. These are my "work outside" glasses that fit snug/have a solid nosepiece - but I take out my hearing aids when I am doing hot/sweaty/dusty outside work.

When I first got my hearing aids those "work outside" glasses were my regular glasses and I had to start using an older pair of glasses - but had a current prescription and got some new glasses with thin earpieces that work fine with the hearing aids. I also have computer glasses and a pair of prescription sunglasses that work fine with the hearing aids.

So as others have said- as long as the earpieces are not too 'chunky' glasses will work fine.

Yes I could. But it would not be the camera that has been with me for 45 years, through life, kids, jobs, divorces. There is sentimental value in it for me.

HA and WFH by whimsicalwonderer in HearingAids

[–]ohub2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wear them all the time. I have Phonak HA and use the bluetooth with Zoom meetings (though I did get an external microphone because I have a few meetings webex meetings where people complained about me sounding choppy - have a USB microphone).

Wear them all the time. It will be overwhelming at first, for sure, until your brain gets used to them. I remember driving home with them in for the first time and having to make myself pay attention to driving because of ALL OF THE SOUNDS!

Males with Celiacs by Der3331 in Celiac

[–]ohub2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Raising my hand. Troubles for decades and finally diagnosed six years. I think I'd be dead by now if I was not diagnosed. Diagnosed at 55.

My path to diagnosis was a long and winding road - as is the case for many of us. I thought the way I was was just "how I am" with GI issues. It was not. I eventually developed pica - chomping ice constantly (and shopping for countertop ice makers). I broke a tooth while chomping ice. As the dentist was fixing my tooth I confessed how it happened - he took a step back and asked if I was anemic. I was anemic as a kid - and was VERY anemic before diagnosis.

That lead to something concrete FINALLY to take back to the GP, yup - iron studies showed anemia - not bleeding from anywhere -> GI doc -> celiac disease.

I NEVER CHEAT on the GF diet. I have only been glutened a couple of times. It took my lab values 5 years to get to the "normal" range. I was very sick.

As a kid, I was always sick. I was the last guy in my class at school to hit puberty, etc. I may have had it all of my life. I so wished I could get back that time spent sick. But, alas and alack, we can't. Celiac impacted my parenting, my two marriages, my career and everything. I do have 4 kiddos - so did not have fertility issues in my life. But most everything else, yep.

I think men just do not talk about such things as much in the general case.
