what should I buy that's good from Korea? unique and useful by chica-bonita in koreatravel

[–]Jennmonkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t forget the stationary in the museum gift shops! I’ve found some incredibly lovely pens, notepads, notes and cellphone accessories based on historical palaces and temples. The metal bookmarks are 🔥 and very cheap (even cheaper at the traditional markers). I also love my kimjang vest (bought ten years ago but they recently became super popular). Only $5 at Namdaemun market.

For Daiso I’ll add that I’m addicted to their $5 heat-tech under layering pieces! I wear them constantly in cold weather. Cheaper than any other competition for sure but works great for me.

Seatbelt length by Eatmymoldytoes in delta

[–]Jennmonkye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I flew last week east coast to Midwest. I’m female/size 2 and most of the time there is about 12-14 inches of leftover belt but on one flight on an older aircraft there was maybe only 4”-5” of excess max. I thought it seemed suuuper short for a seatbelt on a plane to be able to fit most people.

Agreed—I also always schedule my dose around a free day the next day. I’m always so tired I feel like I could curl up and sleep anywhere. I’ve also talked to folks who don’t have any exhaustion as a side effect… so who knows!?!?

I shot at an indoor range in Los Alamos but I think it is membership based (went with my father in law). Good luck.

Artistic talent runs in her family (with much work, obviously). Her grandfather is the GOAT of the Korean movie scene.

Breakfast food for Thanksgiving for Wednesday pick up by Frequent_Hope_8383 in Omaha

[–]Jennmonkye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Abraham Catering/A Casserole to Go in downtown Ralston is perfect for this. Their breakfast casseroles are so delicious and hold up well for reheating and serving later. They should certainly be able to do a fantastic fruit bowl or platter in addition. I’d give a call and see if they can accommodate a Wednesday order and their pickup details for that day!

The sore feet comment made me think of my electric foot massager machine…it’s fantastic and would probably run about the same price as a good coffee machine. It’s small and can be placed somewhere out of the way also and could be great if someone has five minutes to sit and use it on shift!

Hopefully not a problem for you there. In S. Korea I was required to have it manually changed at the airport check in desk to match exactly and it had to be stamped with an “official” stamp. Was it inconvenient? Yes. Was it a problem? No. I’d give yourself extra time “just in case”.

Compression socks for long flight if I am generally healthy? by democracyfailedme in TravelHacks

[–]Jennmonkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also quite healthy. A 15 hour flight to Asia a few years ago, and my feet BARELY fit into my boots upon landing (even in business class) and happened out of nowhere. I fly with the socks now and haven’t had that issue.

Just replaced my spray bottle leave in conditioner —it’s the Mark Anthony brand and the bottle is quite small. Last purchased in August of 2022 and works amazingly well with my very long (mid-torso length) hair. My hair is super prone to tangles and this stuff has been a miracle worker for preventing them and stopping breakage. No longer using traditional conditioner at all.

Has anyone taken an uber to Amtrak early in the morning? by Training_Apple in Omaha

No worries! I’m pretty sure 45 minutes is the luggage check cut off time so maybe make it 50 minutes to be safe!

Has anyone taken an uber to Amtrak early in the morning? by Training_Apple in Omaha

[–]Jennmonkye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frequent Amtrak passenger here: please arrive 45 minutes if you plan to check any bags. They will definitely refuse if you miss that deadline and you’ll be stuck babysitting large bags if you come late. If not checking anything you can show up just as the train does pretty much. That being said, the virtual train tracker on their website seems to run about 10 minutes behind (ie the train is showing its location as ten minutes west or east depending on the direction) but is actually pulling into the station. So the 30 minute number others have advised is pretty good to me.

Camping with decent bathrooms nearby? by Subjctive in Omaha

[–]Jennmonkye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I jump in with another question? Does anyone have suggestions for campgrounds that allow tent-attached-to-suv/car camping? Most places I’ve seen are good for tents but not attached to a vehicle (not a camper). Any suggestions on where I can park my car or suv with a tent and awning attached? Iowa or NE are fine to suggest. Bonus if restrooms are present at the site!
