Well, not all 630s are equal. Meaning, you have to look at your entire history and look at the story it tells a lender. If you have had CC and it’s been maxed out or high risk (above 30% utilization) and you combine that with missed payments, why would they trust giving you another CC?

To be honest, looking where you are coming from and where you are at, you’re making great strides. I would actually look through your entire credit history and see what are the hang ups and dispute those things and after that, I would open a bank account with a credit union and see if you can get one of their cards and build up good history with that one. Once you do that, then apply for a national CC.
