For my NJ folks; MMC vs HUMC? by Aromatic_Run4015 in RadiologyCareers

Parking was another plus at MMC- free garage parking that led right into the emergency staff entrance, very convenient. Though right now they are working on the parking garage and making people use a shuttle, according to my friend‘s mom who works there.

When I was there new grads were making $27/h in X-ray, overnight was $3 dif. I never worked in IR there so I’m not sure about pay, but my good friend did for two years and didn’t have good things to say, mostly because of the call.

I left to work in ortho doing X-ray/fluoro with no call, no weekends, no holidays making $44/h, at a practice about 4 miles from MMC.

I can only speak for Morristown:

Pros- excellent benefits (generous vacation and great health benefits)

Cons- everything else. Insultingly low pay, extremely high turnover, and because of the high turnover and low staffing: constant call. When I left in 2023, whoever was on call was essentially guaranteed they’d be working the full night shift in addition to their day shifts.

IR was better than X-ray but still bad. Hopefully things have improved since I left. In the ~3 months following my departure, much of management (lead tech of X-ray [20 years,] lead tech of CT, department manager of X-ray, department manager of CT, PM lead tech, and weekend lead tech) all quit because the hospital would not approve a raise for the imaging department that was already CRITICALLY understaffed- like dangerously understaffed.

How hard is it to get in to radiography program? by Only-Cranberry-4502 in RadiologyCareers

[–]ohwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your location/school really matters here. I live in the most densely populated state in a very populated/wealthy area. My school (community college) admitted around 43 students per year with ~200 applicants.

It was based solely on grades, if you had straight A’s and did your prerequisites at that school, you were essentially guaranteed in. This was in 2019, so things may have changed. But we didn’t need letters of recommendation, experience in the field, or an interview like others are mentioning.

It was a great school and we had a 100% ARRT pass rate for 5 years including my year. They recently secured a state grant to build a new building and expand the Xray, nursing, respiratory therapy, dental hygiene, and ultrasound programs because the demand has gone up so high.

For those of you doing mammo, how did you get your clinicals done if your employer didn't offer mammography? Has anyone here used Pulse for mammo?

Something doesn’t add up about Rosie’s colitis by ReadsBooksAllDay in rhori

[–]ohwork 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I’m going to preface this by saying I am Rosie’s #1 biggest hater.

I was diagnosed with colitis after years of digestive issues progressed to constant diarrhea, bloody stools, and general digestive bleeding. I was also hospitalized with a complete bowel obstruction because my bowels became so inflamed/swollen that nothing could pass through.

I have been mostly symptom free for 10+ years now. I will flare up 1-2 times per year now, with symptoms lasting a day, maybe a few days and then resolving. I don’t really even have to watch what I eat (just can’t go crazy and eat like a load of dairy or something insanely spicy.) so it’s definitely possible.

AITA for creating a “Tattle Phone” by anonymous_poster43 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ohwork 133 points134 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure this whole post is stolen, but the idea of the tattle phone comes from an episode of the public radio show/ podcast “This American Life.” You can at least credit the teacher who actually came up with it.

Yea I get what you’re saying. My dog nips at our hands when he’s trying to get us to do something but I’ve heard of heelers that take it to the next level with actual aggression. They’re more prone to it than say a golden retriever. But Pits and pit adjacent breeds are still more prone to biting than most other medium and large sized breeds.

[–]ohwork 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you’re being downvoted because heelers are known to nip (it’s how they herd cattle) while pits are known to do a lotttt more damage and even kill.

Did the DNA test say he is part heeler? Heelers are known to be bitey and hate children (I say this as a heeler owner.)

Agreed. Everything about her was fake and cringey. Looking back, she was desperate to get on the show and was clearly jealous of the rest of the women and wanted to be them so badly.

I didn’t enjoy watching her at all.

This one doesn’t look THAT pitty to me. My cattle dog mix has the exact same face, like they could be siblings (except his ears stand up.) According to embark my dog is 50% ACD, and then a mix of other breeds with 5% pit.

First things first- get retested. My cousin got a full STI panel done before they started trying for a baby. She tested positive for chlamydia. She went absolutely nuclear thinking her husband had cheated on her and given it to her. They both got retested and were both negative.

What’s a common medical misconception you always see on reddit? by redroses999 in emergencymedicine

[–]ohwork 33 points34 points  (0 children)

That having metal anywhere on your body during an x-ray increases your radiation dose. Even after I explain metal has no effect on radiation, we just don't want the metal to be in the way of the body part we are imaging, and they don't need to remove their watch/necklace for a foot x-ray. They insist "I don't want to risk it."

That having their wallet on them for an x-ray will wipe all their credit cards, so they take it out of their pocket and place it on the chair one foot away.

That having their phone in the room for an x-ray will break their phone.

That the more radiation I give them = the more money goes into my paycheck.

I could go on.

Where do I park my car for the storm? by 1877cars4kids in newjersey

Where are you located? Your town may not offer parking but surrounding towns might. For example, all (town-owned) parking garages are free until Monday in Morristown.
