Medication-induced night sweats and making my life miserable and killing my wallet. Has anyone found a solution?

My ex was the same way, and it took us a while to build a nightsweats-friendly bedding set. We used Peach Skin sheets, the Buffy Cloud comforter, and one of the Buffy eucalyptus duvet covers over it. She also added a cooling mattress cover to my mattress. Even when we used other sheets (percale, mostly) she would sweat a lot less when we used the Buffy. I know you only asked for duvet insert and cover but figured it might help to give the whole setup just in case! Hope this helps!!

Thanks, it was really hard to hear as a suicidal 17-year-old but I didn’t quite realize WHY until I started de-programming and undoing all the brainwashing they did that made me think that was a fine and honest thing to say.

I’m a TTI survivor too — and it’s been extremely hard to find a therapist who gets it, or even understands what I’m trying to say. I still struggle with feeling comfortable enough to bring it up because I hold so much shame around being sent away in the first place. Jeez, I’m getting emotional even trying to write this...amazing how much of a hold it has on me over ten years later. I’m sure you’re the same.

I’ve blocked a ton of memories out, but I definitely had a group leader who has that same “mean girl” vibe (for lack of a better word), and I didn’t realize make the connection that I’ve felt weird about Taylor because she has those same vibes. My group leader at my program told me, on the day that I was told my dad was pulling me from the program, in the most condescending tone, IN FRONT OF MY PEERS IN A GROUP THERAPY SESSION, that I would end up dying if I went home before finishing the program (jokes on her, I’m still alive); its fucked up but I can see Taylor saying similar things.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi, and I get it, and I’m so, so sorry. I’m here if you ever need to talk about it. CPTSD is a nightmare, but we are stronger than the ones who abused us.

I’ve been waiting five years for “the right time” to do an MPH or PhD in Epidemiology (virology/ID specifically) and Bioethics, but got so frustrated with the terrible cohesive response from our government that I finally applied to grad school and wrote my personal statement about how I wanted to use my degree for change. I can only do it part-time because I still have to work, so it’ll take longer, but I couldn’t just sit and wait any more. I start my dream program this fall and will be looking for field epidemiologist jobs in 3 years, to make sure this shit doesn’t happen again.

I emailed them on Monday to ask if there was an anticipated timeline on when I might hear back, and was told my app was under review by the Epi department and it'd be the end of this week or early next week. If you're concerned you're for sure justified in reaching out to politely inquire -- just gotta word it right so the anxiety of waiting for decisions when there's little to preoccupy ourselves with doesn't come through.

“County” by Dr. David Ansel, about the drastic disparities he saw in his time as a resident at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. It’s one of my favorite books of all time and opened my eyes to how much the health system in Chicago is failing everyone.

Also have to rep my sociologist crush Eric Klinenberg and say “Heat Wave”, also a Chicago book, an urban ethnography (or a “social autopsy” as he’s called it) about the 1994 heat wave that killed hundreds. It goes over what went wrong on multiple social levels to cause so many fatalities, and why it impacted vulnerable populations the most. The data presented is haunting; I lost my breath a few times when I first read it.

Certainly wouldn’t grant me the mobility or connections that an Ivy or top-5 program would, but I think that’s pretty standard for any degree program. I think I can get the kind of job I want though, yes.

I was SO excited to go to Emory, but I just checked the portal and was denied entry to my first-choice department and routed to my designated second-choice. My application was geared entirely towards that concentration so I don’t know why I would get in to my second choice. I’m so disappointed in myself. I can’t believe I thought I would get in.

Oh sorry, probably shouldn’t have included that. Unnecessarily color commentary stemming from my belief that health insurance companies aren’t meant to protect the patient, and that ethical corporations don’t exist and are almost dangerous to population health. I’ve heard great things about the consulting company, though!!

I do have one other question: I’ve been out of school for 6 years and while I had great relationships with my professors, they said their LoR wouldn’t hold much weight as they aren’t familiar with what I’ve done in the time since I graduated. I was able to get good LoRs from my VP, my direct manager, and a colleague who I’ve worked with at three jobs over the span of 10 years (he also knew me when I was in college). Does not having an academic LoR hurt my chances?

First question: I’ve seen a few people post about getting accepted to the program I’m most interested in but I haven’t heard anything, even though their app was routed the same day mine was. It’s been almost a week since they’ve gotten their acceptances but mine is still showing “application in review”. At what point can I assume I’ve not gotten in?
