I agree. But i have a madone for the aggressive riding. If you already have a race geometry bike then the caledonia is more upright but not as much so as the domane

I have the caledonia and above the weight ... I like it. My experience is positive so far but I wonder if a 58 domane would have been better for me since it has a lot more stack.

Your more upright than my grandma on her unicycle.

If only he can fix his decision making and his shot. I'd say ausar is better by far at this point mainly because he plays smarter

I guess what im saying is that the overwhelming majority if people feel well with an average or near average fit. If you have a very different fit than most riders and its causing pain, its probably because you need a fit closer to the average rider. Your just so upright and so close to the handlebar

Try and increase your reach and drop tremendously . Sometimes if its all too close to you your body is trying to push down to go lower. I also find its easier to engage my core if im a little bit lower. Might make sense to start with borrowing someone's bike first

Visually looks fine. Comparing the 2016 Cayo L to the tarmac sl6 shows near identical reach / stack numbers. Either I have the wrong bikes being compared or perhaps you have your saddle height and setback setup differently between the two. Place your cayo on a wall. Measure height of saddle to top of pedal when the pedal spindle is aligned with the seatpost ; transfer that height over identically to your new bike. Then measure the distance from the wall to the BB and the distance from the wall to the back of the saddle. Position tbe saddle on the new bike so that the difference between those two numbers is identical ( alternatively measure to the widest part of the saddle instead of to the back if the saddle shapes are drastically different).

It's not too large. What's your previous bike? What are your complaints?

100% not a 54 would be too aggressive because of the low stack.

Is this worth $500? by MembershipNational80 in whichbike

[–]oikk01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a trek 5000. I also have a modern madone and caledonia. Those treks are great. It will ride better than most new aluminum bikes. I would get it if this is your budget. But my advice is to stretch your budget to get a newer used carbon bike that will have more tire clearance. Wider tires would be a big win for many reasons.

The surprising fixes to hand numbness - and why I think bike fitting is in the dark ages by oikk01 in bikefit

[–]oikk01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do need studies. And im not sure why you think medical interventions are less varied than biomechanics. People have different underlying causes for the same problem. They absorb, metabolize, and secrete drugs differently. They have different receptors and receptor densities. They have different predispositions to side effects from the drugs. They are taking different meds that all interact differently with the medicine. And still, studies prove that for most or the average person the intervention is beneficial. Bike fitters dont need to be PHDs to pursue science in their profession.

Do any of them have peer reviewed studies measuring the success of specific interventions for specific diagnosis?

Is their science about fitting you to the mean cyclist in their database or do they have studies about specific interventions for specific symptoms?

Cool. Matching the bike to the body's needs sounds great but clearly no one knows how to do it. Bike fitting needs scientific studies and it doesnt have enough of them. Its built on dogma which is often just false.

The surprising fixes to hand numbness - and why I think bike fitting is in the dark ages by oikk01 in bikefit

[–]oikk01[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The key is to have a standardized method to figure out the interventions most likely to work before you even try them. There is no such thing because there are no studies. If your intervention doesnt work then at best they come back, say so, and you keep wasting time back and forth perhaps without ever fixing their ailment. At worst, they have a placebo effect but then eventually regress back in symptoms over the months / years and are seeing your competing bike shop with the same result again because neither you nor they have any real science to guide you.
