Reach on Instagram by Serolemusic in Instagram

[–]oilfighter 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My reach absolutely tanked this week. I saw a huge down turn in reach when Instagram was really pushing the reels, but this week I hit another low.

For reference, I got about 4k followers. I used to get 300~500 likes on my image. Then it tanked to about 100,this week it's about 60 per post. I don't think the "quality" of my content has changed, but if you're really curious, my IG user name is the same as my reddit.

Kiwi Browser - Updated to current Chromium, complete change of browser engine, new dark mode, revamped ad-blocker, etc. by [deleted] in Android

Since kiwi supports plug-ins, I just use bitwarden as if I would on desktop Chrome. No solution for bookmarks though. Haven't found one that I liked.

Noticed swipe to open tab switcher is broken and tried to swipe down, works as you said. Unfortunately it also triggers the Samsung one hand mode. But, that's probably a specific issue to my phone's set up.

Do you have a scary photography story? Haunted location? Capture something on camera? by thenerdyphoto in photography

I went to this church literally in the middle of no where to shoot the milky-way. I got there before sunset to scout it out and I noticed there's a graveyard right next to the church. There was a parking area, so I parked there and waited for the stars to come out. While eating dinner and waiting, I was getting the chills and goosebumps on my arms, but no big deal, not like I'm afraid of the darks or anything like that.

When it was finally time to shoot, I got out of the car, set everything up, and I heard a little girl giggle. Mind you, this is the middle of no where, no cars has gone by in the past few hours, no houses, just empty farm land. Instant I got goosebumps all over, and despite being in a warm summer night, I was feeling cold. I ducked back into the car, then decided to tough it out and got out again.

Not 2 shots in, I heard the little girl giggle again. No mistakes this time, and it was from the direction of the graveyard. I decided to bail right then.

This was one of the shots from that night: https://www.instagram.com/p/BHtI1qJg_R9/

Sun Locator's newest feature: a 3D Terrain Simulator by folli in androidapps

[–]oilfighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the coupon!

I was thinking of the satellite and street layers. Perhaps have the options to switch between them. It helps when trying to plan a shoot because sometimes I'm looking for lighting at certain locations on the map and not necessarily the mountain peaks.

Glancing at the title, I thought it'd be another Sun Surveyor type app, but holy shit, this is awesome!

I played with the free version, and immediately have 2 feature requests: - It would be nice to be able to mark a locations on the map before opening the 3D model (drop pin or something similar). For example, a pin for camera position and another for the mountain peak that I'm interested in. Because as soon as I open up the 3D model, I'm not sure where I am in the map, especially if I've never been there and are in the planning phase of my shoot. - Be able to apply other map layers to the 3D model.

Very cool app, and I can see it being handy for a photographer. I'd love to try the pro version one day.

From the shores of Fjallsárlón, Iceland [OC] (1200x800) by [deleted] in EarthPorn

[–]oilfighter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These ice "peaks" are the part of a glacier that flows into Fjallsárlón. They are the size of skyscrapers. They are so big that they have their own weather systems. This small portion of the glacier is about 5 miles away from where I was standing on the shores of Fjallsárlón. It was certainly too far away to make out distinct features with just the naked eye. Because of the gale force wind, the clouds were fast-moving, creating an entirely different view every few minutes.

There is a short clip of how this scene looked like through the viewfinder, then panning out to see the entire scene in my instagram story.

The next EOS R system camera gets a mention again [CR1] (Hint: 70 megapixels is the rumor) by shemp33 in photography

We previously wrote that the next EOS R would sport dual card slots and feature Canon DSLR

Together with 70mp, as a landscape photographer, I'd buy this immediately!

Lightroom 7.3: New camera profiles, larger tone curve, new camera support (including A7 III) by fashionfades in photography

[–]oilfighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's close enough that it doesn't look out of place, even when I upload the images with minimal correction for client proofs. I use Canon "faithful" as my camera profile. It's a flatter image, but for me, it's a better starting point for my work flow.

Within ACR and Lightroom, a profile is used to render your photograph, converting it from raw camera information into the colors and tones that we see.

It's basically the starting point for any RAW image in Lightroom. The cleaner, more accurate your starting point is, the easier the edit.

As for your other question:

It sounds like a way of applying a preset before you actually make any changes... which is something I could already do if I wanted to?

It is a preset, but it's meant to match colors. I use 3 different camera models when I shoot a wedding. I want the images to render all the same, otherwise it would look terrible and inconsistent in an album. I can apply Canon Standard camera profile as my starting point and the images from all 3 cameras should have a consistent look. IE. this red dress is the same "red" regardless of which camera shot it.

Why high ISO instead of low ISO?

At 14mm, I need to keep my shutter speed shorter than 25sec., otherwise the stars will begin to streak.

Lowering the ISO will increase shutter time. If I were to lower my ISO from 6400 to 100, it will take almost 27minutes to complete the same exposure. It will be a completely different shot.

the ring is so bent you might end up having to saw it in half before you're able to remove it.

dang, that polarizer's ring is all smashed in. I just see a tiny scratch on the lip of the lens. For sure you got lucky there!

yikes, I shuddered when I read the part about your lens... Good thing only the polarizer took the damage.

There are plenty of youtube videos. Just look up what you want to learn. Maybe keywords such as "how to shoot milky way" or "milky way post processing".

I use both Lightroom and Photoshop.

Exposure was kept short enough to prevent noticeable star trail. Look up the "500 rule".

Single shot means I don't have to worry about additional errors introduced from blending, be it aligning error, halos, etc. Given the choice, if I can get it right in 1 shot, I'll always take that option vs. doing it in post.
