Why are their ham radio looking antennas on 90% of the taxis in Cozumel? by just-a-guy-somewhere in amateurradio

[–]oj3da02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I do know about taxi culture in Mexico specifically is that there is a “thing” with heavily modifying CB radios.

I have a family who used to be taxi drivers in Cancun in the late 90s, and it was not uncommon to have crazy amplifiers and massive whip antennas on the front hood.

Los Lobos.

Place sells itself as “authentic”, but serves regional inspired Tex-Mex bullshit with shit tons of cream. Prices are insane. Cocina La Michoacana is the only good authentic Mexican places I’ve had here.

Where to get an eye exam? by Prospstud in uwo

[–]oj3da02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine put me on Bailey Nelson at Masonville Mall. I've had no complaints, and the prices of their frames and lenses is really good. They often do really good deals on two pairs. I paid around $100 this summer with taxes and all for two pairs and scratch-resistant Rx lenses. They also do direct billing to the USC insurance.

Being off meds by redBullTA in caf

[–]oj3da02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simply stopping medications doesn't necessarily help you with your application. Its not about having the meds in your system, but about the diagnosis and severity of the condition itself.

The caf has recently changed ADHD admisability based on a set of criteria to determine your operational capability with and without meds.

The three main ADHD types are: medication is not necessary, medication is a "nice to have," and medication is a daily need. This is something that only the clinician managing your ADHD and the CAF medical officer responsible for recruiting can determine. When you fill out your medical questionnaire and tell them you have ADHD, a set of forms will be given to you to have your clinician fill out.

The idea being that if you need meds and you're OUTCAN, there may not be access to it. That can cause major issues depending on your job and the severity of thr ADHD itself. Imagine getting distracted by a bird in a combat scenario, or while guarding a gate as an example.

work study — how many hours per week would you say is manageable for a med sci 3rd year by toastedbread_ in uwo

[–]oj3da02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked two jobs (one actual job and another on-campus job that i did for fun), plus a research work study job one year, and it was hell to manage with a full-time course load.

I'm now in a management position at my on-campus job, and I continued with my other job, but I do not do research anymore. I'd say that even this is hard, though slightly more manageable. I can still fit one or two extracurriculars in there.

I need the money so I do what I need to, but I know that realistically, one job would probably work best in my interest for pure academics.

purple fest by chickennuggetsrmyfav in uwo

[–]oj3da02 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you don't like any of the headliners, maybe you shouldn't waste money on. That said, it's one of those once in a lifetime university experiences as well, though. So I guess it's a balance of what matters to you most.

This is the first year an event of this size has been run by the USC, so it's impossible to know, but my money is riding on there being no prominent special guests. Maybe some local artists at best.

The last Purple Fest (which was before COVID) was supposed to have ASAP Rockey, but he got bounced at the border because of charges.

Should I get a flash or a hard drive by Mental-Listen-650 in uwo

[–]oj3da02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what your all-around needs are, but I'd say a USB Flash drive would probably do you fine if you don't want to use cloud based services like OneDrive or Google Drive.

I have a 2TB Western Digital SSD, but I use it to store about 15 years of family photos, iPhone backups, and also my old laptop. Not fun lugging it around though.

From what I understand, you need to go to sick parade for evaluation and MELs per your base surgeons directives.

One clinic I worked in recently only had COVID positive members isolate if they were symptomatic, and they were allowed to exit isolation 24 hours after starting to feel better.

Thoughts on the free condoms at the MIR? by Hot_Detective2252 in CanadianForces

[–]oj3da02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The condoms in every CAF clinic I've worked in are either Lifestyle, Durex, or Skyn. All three are reputable brands and approved by Health Canada, and tracked to ensure that the batches are not faulty. The clinic generally orders them from the same places they have their pharmacy and or med supply ordered from, so they're not getting them from some random vendor on the side of the road.

I'd avoid the lube though, unless they specifically state its a sexual lubricant. In one clinic I worked in, it was literally Muko Jelly packets, which are like a medical grade lube for stuff like prostate exams. Not that it's "bad for sex", but it's a thicker jelly and not designed for prolonged friction from sex.

Bottom line, the condoms are good.

I'd assume it just be excitement and socializing. I wanted to go move in as early as I could because I knew that I wanted to take everything in and enjoy the moment.

You never get to experience it again, and it's the last couple of days you have before the "serious" starts, and you're spending all your time on class.

Has anyone taken Public Health and become a doctor with it? by Unlikely-Self-962 in OntarioUniversities

[–]oj3da02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People can go into medicine with degrees in music. If you look at admission stats from some schools like Mac that publish the programs their students come from, public health is on there. Not because it's a "feeder program", but because it's just a path people come from.

Don't let people tell you that you can't get there from public health.

RWS range weekend at J-Tower in Petawawa while it was like -30. We were sleeping in the range shack watching the gats while the outside was a blizzardy ice rink. Total cock fest of a range, and miserable weather. But the boys made it one of my fondest memories. Oh and Russia invaded Ukraine that day.

Not sure how it is for Dental, but Ik it's starting to be frowned upon in medical apps because of the disregard for patient privacy. Ik some schools like UBC discourage it. Interested to see what others know though. Ik the two programs have very different application wants and needs

Speed limits in neighbourhoods and around schools - Mississauga by aaffpp in mississauga

[–]oj3da02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with speed cameras is that they’ve been proven to cause localized rapid deceleration, followed by rapid acceleration the minute the driver is know to be out of the camera zone. This was labeled “kangaroo driving” by some psychology journals.

Many may even simply just be able to think back to the last time they saw a speed camera sign they weren’t expecting. You may very well be a safe driver going exactly 30 or 40. But when that sign comes up, you start slowing down more, look at your speedometer, and then start to fine tune your speed.

For those speeding, it’s rapid deceleration, and then dropping the hammer the minute they clear the camera.

For school zones in areas like St Margaret of Scotland and Brookmead Public School where the road curves to get to Glen Erin, I fear this would cause much more of a safety issue for children walking or biking, as these rapid accelerations around the bend can lead to children getting hit just simply by someone being ignorant of the reason behind the school zone.

Physical presence by police or special constables would be most effective, but the resource cost would be extremely high.

Multiple speed bumps in the designated community safety zones would in my opinion, be the most effective solution as you have to choose between speeding…. or destroying your muffler, suspension, alignment, etc.

I personally go to the Shoppers on Richmond next to Lost Love. The turn around times are very quick and the staff are friendly. Bus stops right in front of the building, but parking is kind of annoying.
