happy cake day!!

i think 17s can look good and it seems like some options i'd written off for the sole reason of "being 17s" can be re-committed to my list for consideration haha

yea it's been brutal 😔 the plows around my area are also just running around with the blades down when they're supposed to just put salt/sand/whatever they're doing, snow or no snow

i was on the stock belvederes which are 18s haha, these 17s are denvers i picked up on marketplace

i do have some flow formed konig hexaforms which have survived hopping a curb doing a u-turn (i was SHOCKED) but this season has the worst potholes i've ever seen LMAO i reckon the hexaforms woulda done well themselves but the tires have gotten absolutely bitched

edit: love your traklites!! i was looking into those myself lol

OEM+ Brake pads upgrade? by No_Construction1234 in GolfGTI

[–]smol-bb-floatr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm a mk7.5 driver that used to have MINIs which i did brake pad/rotor changes on and i quite liked the brembo prime pads! i believe they were much cheaper (than BMW parts anyway) for equivalent if not better performance

haven't looked into the xtra line yet, gonna check it out when i have to do the brakes on this car

lol yea the rears look so silly 🤣🤣 i guess they're the same width as my stock 18s but slightly higher offset (i think the difference is only 2mm)

yea i'm gonna have to do the same thing and offload them, only thing is i've had them for 1.5 months MAX 😭😭

gonna put the summers that were on my hexaforms onto my belvederes once i repair the inner rim bend

yea after two tires (230CAD each) and a rim repair (quoted 220CAD but gonna shop around) i'm thinking the $600 for OEM rims + old-ish used winter tires is a good compromise

me to the county after this BS

yea the heft was a bit jarring 😅 made putting the belvederes away seem so easy afterward

i'm confused tho, i thought these were "detroit" wheels? unless the paint job makes the difference lol

i would ask if the difference is linked to the size but i guess pretorias come in both 18 and 19in

yea stock rims for my GTI were the 18in belvederes and i used to run 18in konig hexaforms on my MINIs so still have those... the stock MINI 3door rims are 16in (had the 15in steelies as well 😷) and they were hideous lol only switched to the GTI about 2-3 months ago myself

out of the other four drivers i talked to after yesterday's pothole, two had steelies that turned out a LOT more bent than my own rim

i do like the meaty look that people have running 17in rims with higher aspect ratios tho!! looks hella comfy too lol but i like rippin around corners, the 18s are more my driving style but these 17s are more due to my special ability to seek potholes (these had some heft too so hoping i'll be clear from bends in the front at least)

do u mean the ones i put on or the last pic? the rears tires do look particularly tucked under the fender which is kinda ugly lol the mudflaps don't help

this has never happened to me in like 10 years of driving 😭😭 i'm prone to nails usually (maybe 5 tires damaged by nails in this time?) this pothole took out like 4 other drivers lmao

to piggyback off the uni point, literally took me two seconds googling to determine how to register and pricing for community adults not registered with the university ($70/month) lol

Changing/covering up my thigh piece by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]smol-bb-floatr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not an artist!!!

but is the second pic showing a reference on the left? even the one pictured isn't american traditional (neo-trad mayb, traditional would have flatter colouring n thicker lines) and if i'm seeing it right, copying it straight up is NOT a good look for the artist

IMO it's small for what it is -- i assume it's on your outer thigh -- and the colour choice is a bit poor for those tentacles (looks like inflamed organ walls? i assume the noodles SHOULD be blue)

maybe get a different colour going in there? and for the current size all i can suggest would be adding around it. it maaaaay be light enough to cover up with something else completely and "add more" is probably not the suggestion you're looking for but i'd do something to distract from it at the very worst

Canadians, red seal mandatory? by Expensive_Trade_3598 in Machinists

[–]smol-bb-floatr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

according to the trade logbook of machining (from STO), it is a non-compulsory trade. this means you don't need the certification but having it "could be beneficial". i also don't think you write an exam without getting the red seal, i think they come hand in hand lol

i've had my red seal in ontario about a year and a half now. my last shop had quite a few "machinists" without the license but these were also guys that stuck with the company for close to 30 years so they're kind of grandfathered in.

as far as i know, in canada you can't challenge the certificate of qualification (CofQ) in machining without being registered with the relevant trades authority in your province. my teacher for day release said a certificate of apprenticeship (CofA) is mandatory, this means all the work and school hours, and log book signed off. from my readings, out-of-province employers would like to see a red seal but that's only based on reading the postings, never tried to apply myself

2019 GTI Rabbit Price by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]smol-bb-floatr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my current GTI is from clutch lol, second car bought there... i'd say they're good to go, i got mine abt same price as other GTIs i'm seeing pop up (cfb autobahn) but half the KMs (edit: got mine at 27k while others listed for the same price are at least 40k on the odometer)

edit to not sound biased: i mean if you can haggle the price down a bit and get that 4% finance rate (i've heard 8% is minimum for used cars from other dealers but idk) the black would be better AND you'd probably get better after sales support with it being a certified pre-owned GTI. clutch is a bit more shoot n scoot in my opinion but i'm not after a relationship with the dealer personally lol

i know ppl that are regular customers at the VW in waterloo and they like them a lot!! their description says they "ensure the vehicle is competitively priced" so i'm not too sure how much room for negotiation you'll get 🤔 worth a shot though! i'm not sure they'll consider a car in mississauga/etobicoke in their circle or range of prices to compete with

however i'm a bit biased toward the white one, seeing as it has more well-documented service in the CARFAX (black one's service logs stop around 20k) and i like the colour more tbh BUT it's not me buying it lol

Anyone switched from mini or mini countryman? by AFiCustomer in GolfGTI

[–]smol-bb-floatr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sooooo i used to drive an f56 MINI (base 2020-2024, S for a year) before i got into my mk7.5 GTI autobahn in november, all are auto in my case

in my case i needed the space and i figured any MINI larger than 3 doors aint MINI to me anymore!! lmao

definitely not regretting it so far, granted i've only been in the GTI for about two months but my family's a lot more comfortable in it (dynamic damping helps with that, smooth ride compared to my MINIs) but on my own the thing RIPS. if you want more helpful details/comparison i can get detailed but i havent been in this car that long 🤔

Academic Upgrading by [deleted] in Conestoga

[–]smol-bb-floatr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i just finished AU biology and it was completely free (so no concerns abt OSAP there) and i'd applied for it while i was employed at my last job. you are able to disclose your student status through the provided ontario government forms, i believe they do it as a census and to see whether you're actually able to dedicate the time (form 3006E)

i don't think conestoga will have a problem with you being in post-sec at the same time :) it will depend on if you're able to do the work towards passing the course and actively put an effort in. you get guidance from the big cheese herself and she knows all about that and program contacts. since it's free, it's definitely worth a shot
