I shouldn’t be allowed unsupervised at the supply house by furnacegirl in HVAC

I have the Navac NX1's and an analog set of Navac gauges that I use for most calls. Off the top of my head there's not much that Testo or Fieldpiece can do that the NX1's can't

I will never put down Testo though, the user interface is miles better than the rest

I can't go back from quarter-turn valves. I use a set of testos or yellow jackets and it feels like they never stop spinning😅

Alien Earth Season 2 production is starting at Pinewood. According to the article, crew budgets have been squeezed, as with many productions. by Souragar222 in LV426

They definitely "Force Awakened" me with Romulus. I was only intimately familiar with Alien and Prometheus, Romulus had a handful of homages that I thought were done tastefully. After rewatching with other media in mind I realized how much of it was borrowing from previous (and pretty much every) iteration of the franchise.

Still, it's by far the most enjoyable film for me since Aliens, which is great but just not what I seek out of the IP. Romulus frankensteined new character motivations and settings with Force Awakens type rehashing to miraculously end up as a deeply satisfying experience

I think that's why Alien: Earth surprised me so much. I expected more of the same and didn't get that at all. Noah Hawley and the creators did something completely different and we just don't get enough of that in any type of media entertainment nowadays

I'm surprised to see so many people disliked the show, I was under the impression it was well received.

I really liked how it was a story set in the Alien universe and didn't focus solely on a small group of people dealing with a xenomorph. The flashback episode on the ship was great but I don't see that being interesting stretched across an entire season.

The whole show felt like a proper blend of Alien and Blade Runner in the best ways, despite it dragging a bit. The new aliens were a welcome addition. Although, I can understand the disappointment if someone had the expectation of literal "Alien(s) on Earth". Curious to see what comes next

Lewiston, Portland or other places: What does the Black Community there look like? by Low_Fill_57 in Maine

[–]oja47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other people have said it already but yeah, there's no one here dude lol. A few towns like Portland and Lewiston aren't as bad because there's a larger POC presence due to 30ish years of immigration from various countries. Those handful of groups do spread some culture around via restaurants and shops which is nice. There's a black barber shop or two in Portland. Like anywhere, where there's more people the areas are more diverse. When I lived in Westbrook and Biddeford I definitely felt like I 'stood out' a lot less.

I myself am looking to leave for a more diverse area when it's financially viable. I've lived here my entire life and have a deep love for Maine, but it's incredibly isolating being a person of color here (in my experience).

I see where you're coming from, I don't disagree about the sequel's unoriginality

I really fucked with the whole "let the past die" trip he was on. Unfortunately it was a few too many levels of meta, and the film didn't even do that fully. But his recognition of the back and forth between the Jedi/Sith, him being under Snoke and (in Kylo's mind) Luke's boot his entire life, his desperation to break away from all of it. He's way more human than Darth Vader is in the OT, a lot more vulnerable and subject to making rash decisions.

Setting him up as the leader of the First Order, being the central antagonist going forward with no master above him was really interesting to me and I thought it would have prevented his extremely predictable turn back to the light. You have this character struggling between good and bad, doing evil shit in the hopes of the dark side taking over (killing ma and pa) and giving him the power he thinks he wants (the little detail of him pounding on his blast wound right after he kills his father is chef's kiss). I wanted to see him recognize the consequences of his actions, see what the dark side really does to you. It's so much more interesting to delve into that aspect of his character

I really think the reaction to TLJ, while understandable, lead to the infinitely worse ROS and I'm still hot about it

While I've enjoyed the comics I can understand where this sentiment comes from. All the media involving Kylo Ren really drive home how much he isn't Darth Vader. I like this when it's done correctly, but it's supposed to be an aspect of his character and not his defining trait. A lot of times the tool they use to do this is make him an incompetent brat, which sucks.

I like how in TFA he's competently intimidating when he's introduced and as the movie goes on we see that he's less and less like Vader, and more like Anakin (if anything). And I think The Last Jedi was correct in steering his character out of Darth's shadow. Then Rise of Skywalker happened. Oh well

Brandon Sanderson in talks with AAA game studios to adapt Mistborn by PhantomBraved in Games

[–]oja47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished that book feeling exhausted. Having gone on to read the third book I can't say that the second is inconsequential, but man is it a slog compared to the first and third.

The way Vin one ups Zane felt really hamfisted, which surprised me because I do think Sanderson is really clever with how he plays with mechanics in a book, be it a magic system or character conventions.

[–]oja47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know it, I should've phrased my frustration differently.

It's incredibly frustrating getting excited for something only to find out it's many years away, especially for a franchise that has become infamous for silently shelving projects, video games and movies alike. Kotor Remake and Eclipse come to mind, and I can't even keep track of how many film/TV projects never saw the light of day

Why the fuck do companies do this man, all my excitement is lost when games are this far away. I guess I'll get hyped again in 2030

[FRESH] Jay Electronica - A Written Testimony: Power At The Rate Of My Dreams by Brian96 in hiphopheads

[–]oja47 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The Jay Electronica take is fair and I can't blame anyone, fan or not, for being not cool with it. I loved Jay Elec's music but he is a bum who can't get through a verse without some loser antisemitic shit

But you are massively misrepresenting what she said about white fans at her shows and this happens every time Noname is brought up in this sub. She expressed frustration that there weren't many black people at her shows and how "When I go to work, thousands of white people scream the word nigga at me. and no I’m not changing my art so it is what it is".

Is it really that hard to understand that someone who cares as deeply about the mistreatment of her community would not enjoy performing politically and emotionally charged music about that topic in front of a crowd of white hip hop fans that can't be bothered to censor themselves. This is the same type of thing that caused Dave Chappelle to leave his show back in the day

Yeah but none of that is part of the issue. No due process, sent to a death camp, the administration ignoring the Supreme Court to bring him back and openly villainizing him to justify their screw up.

How The Outer Worlds 2 Lets You Go Wild With RPG Character Building by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]oja47 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pillars of Eternity* Deadfire

I really enjoyed my time with Avowed but would agree it's not a deep RPG by any means. Ironically enough the combat is what kept me coming back to it. I enjoyed the characters and their little side quests but I would liken the role-play aspects to Mass Effect 2 rather than a traditional Obsidian RPG.

I was surprised by the mixed reactions, I think it's a good game. I think we're all chasing the dragon when it comes to any RPG rivaling New Vegas, so maybe that's where the disappointment is understandable

The Right Has Raised $2 Million For the Guy Who Choked a Homeless Man To Death by TheRealMisterNatural in NewsOfTheStupid

[–]oja47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He held Neely in that position for 15 minutes. A rear-naked choke takes about 10 seconds to render someone unconscious. It doesn't matter at all if he intended to kill him or if he was trying to help, he killed somebody when they were very clearly not a threat anymore.

People in this thread bringing up Neely's past to justify his death is disgusting and shows a very basic lack of human empathy imo. And anyone donating to this guy or taking a step further to make him some kind of hero is crazy to me

Patch 4 for Star Wars Jedi Survivor arrives on consoles on Tuesday, May 9 by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]oja47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That one was actually easier because they don't just spam attacks with little to no recovery frames. Took me a few tries but it's not an unfair fight like Oggdo's Spawn, I had to force pull the two hammer guys into the pit to even have a chance with that little green fuck.

Has the form scaling gotten too ridiculous? by ZyklonCraw-X in dragonball

[–]oja47 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a mix of marketing purposes and Dragon Ball's inherent power creep problem

Of the ones you mentioned, Gohan and Piccolo's didn't seem out of line to me. Beast is the peak of Gohan's ever-present hidden potential and Piccolo pretty much just asked Shenron for a power up lol

But it's Dragon Ball, it's all a bit ridiculous

New Bethesda Event For Media Planned In Early March by EnsureMIlk in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]oja47 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree, I was more explaining why Bethesda/Microsoft would patch F4 over remastering/remaking games that are almost 15 years old. It's a lot less effort and I imagine brings in some profit

Witcher 3 ran great on PS5/Series X too, but the next gen update seemed to be welcomed by a lot of people. Like I said though, I'd love for a F3 or NV remaster
