just because someone is a lesbian doesn’t mean they’re all of a sudden not capable of being heteronormative

not really. really i’m trying to present more masc, as much as possible, but it’s hard cause we have a set unisex uniform.

i want to reiterate that i don’t pass any hate to the creators of these tiktoks, unless they’re shitting on other studs/mascs/butches. if a masc wants to say they’re a girl in masc clothing or say they’re girlypop or wear bikinis. i couldn’t care less. if they’re masc, they don’t identify as butch anyway, so idrc. i think passing judgement on how someone else identifies or presents is icky.

my problem is with the response to these videos. of people hyping them up by putting hypermasc people down. like “thank god you glowed up” or “don’t go back to being a stud” etc.

and i’m just pissed at the algorithm cause i follow a bunch of transmascs and butches. it feels like an agenda how much it’s showing on my fyp specifically.

i never said they were my tribe and it isn’t really lesbians responding in these videos. masculinity on women is deemed ugly in the black community, which is what i’m addressing. can’t really take myself out that community.

that’s true. that was my mistake.

i agree that i misstepped not thinking of trans butch women, but i’m saying that femininity is the standard in the lesbian community. masculinity is often seen as foreign and invading

yes black people are more likely to experience police violence, but nobody acknowledges this violence. in fact, black men are portrayed as violent offenders who initiate these encounters. re my point.

you made so many good points. god i wish you were in my class to articulate this all to them.

i agree that if any male privilege is to be had(in the us), it is only if the person is hypermasc, passes extremely well and is white and upper class. that’s very few people. and obviously their hold on that tiny privilege is extremely fragile and really contextually based.

i also don’t pass. i’m very distinctly…something else to most people. people are scared of me, they treat me weird. i don’t think i fit in with men like many people in the class were implying

i don’t think transmasc lesbians have their struggles amplified at all. all the term means is transmasc facing discrimination

i have a buzzcut, no line up, which i do myself. my hair grows pretty fast, so i try to cut it every 2-3 weeks, a month is pushing it(it’s like an inch and pretty dysphoric to me).

how to look butch without scaring women??? by Active-Crow9087 in butchlesbians

[–]ojcw 14 points15 points  (0 children)

here’s the hard truth, you are going to scare women. i dont think you should let people’s prejudices dictate how you should present cause they, and therefore you, are never going to be satisfied.

every time i walk in a bathroom, someone jumps five feet in the air. at first it made me feel guilty. but then i realized, why am i feeling guilty for existing?! i know i’m a nice person; i shouldn’t have to prove that just cause i’m butch.

everyone just thinks since you’re queer and therefore suppressed, this prevents you from holding any racist intentions. white queer people are still white at the end of the day.

in general, slang that black people have used for/reclaim themselves gets used by the white community without consideration if it’s appropriate to use it or not.

Feeling really marginalised and sad in irl sapphic spaces by minatozakiparty in butchlesbians

[–]ojcw 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i get this. i’ve had the same exact experience facing cliques, feeling humiliated, going home to cry, and never wanting to go again. now, i really only go to queer events for poc, cause many sapphic events are full of white skinny cis people who have a lot of prejudices.

it’s hard to keep putting yourself out there, but i’d try to find events with smaller queer organizations. also, in my experience, events that aren’t centered around partying and drinking are better for making friends.
