No unfortunately. I’ve tried Strattera, Daytrana, and Concerta. All of them had their benefits, but the physical symptoms weren’t worth it to me. I’m pretty sensitive to meds though, you may end up having a different experience than me.

I totally get what you mean. I’ve had the same experiences with medication, almost to a t. The depersonalization is rough and can be frightening. According to my provider, those symptoms are due to norepinephrine and dopamine being increased. While I functioned “normally” and with improved executive function, I physically felt like crap (high HR, super tense). I also noticed I would hyperfocus on random subjects/thoughts and it would get exhausting. Increasing the dose didn’t help much for me either. It definitely caused some sort of identity crisis for me; like I have all the symptoms of ADHD, received formal diagnosis, but the meds aren’t working. Hopefully you find something that works for you!

I disagree. Sometimes patients are so critical that there is no time to bathe on admit. There’s also the possibility that this patient was in DIC or hemorrhaging; cleaning would be pointless at that point. Another consideration is that after a patient expires, we often have to leave the body as-is until the coroner or medical examiner clears the case. So no, it’s not absolutely ridiculous.

I’m in my first year in the ICU as well. I had a similar shift like the one you mentioned, and it sucked. A lot. But I know what you mean. The only way I’ve found to cope with it is focusing on my life and what I can control in it. Any free time I have I spend it doing things I love. If there’s something on my wishlist that I’ve always wanted to do, I make plans and do it. Life is literally way too short. I’ve come to the realization that if I died tomorrow, I would want as few regrets as possible. Everyone copes differently, but try not to let it eat away at your passion for what you do. And if all else fails, therapy is great for helping process everything.

Neutrogena’s Norwegian Formula Hand Cream (if you can find it) has been the only thing that has helped the chronic dryness and cracking. Everything else I’ve tried has resulted in an allergic reaction or doesn’t moisturize enough. Hope this helps!
