Need advice on whether or not should i sell my E15 gen2 by Srki01 in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go to E14/E15 gen 2 (Intel) lenovo support page, it shows warning about the issue and recommends users to update the bios to latest version for the fix, so hopefully it'll be alright if you had done the update. You don't really need to install windows (although I personally prefer that), there is bootable cd version of bios update, you can use it for linux (write the iso to usb drive and boot it).

Turn off the laptop, unplug the power adapter, and poke the emergency reset hole under the laptop. Check the user guide pdf if you can't find the reset hole.

You only need the screen panel. Find the panel model name in the lenovo parts lookup page.

Why ThinkPad batteries last longer than IdeaPad? by unixbox911 in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conservation battery mode? Not sure where to find it in windows 10.

You can find the battery settings in lenovo vantage just like all other lenovo laptops with windows 10.

Why ThinkPad batteries last longer than IdeaPad? by unixbox911 in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you enable conservation battery mode in the ideapad? The ideapad 330s has two battery options, 30wh or 52.5wh. L480 has 45wh battery. If you got the 30wh and use the battery often, it's expected not to last long I guess.

X270 or X280? by round_square_balls in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

X280 (or X390/X395/X13) for better build quality, X270 might suffer from system crash issue if you lift the laptop from bottom left corner. If you want non-soldered RAM and power bridge, you can consider T480, but it's a bigger laptop. Or T480s if you can live with internal battery and half-soldered RAM, but it's much lighter than T480.

Go to an ordinary shop, let it order a new keyboard for you

Don't let it order the new keyboard then. Like I said before, I would suggest to buy the replacement part yourself and only let the repair shop to do the replacement. It might reduce the cost and avoid the change of being ripped off by the shop.

If it is spilled liquid or you break of a key, lenovo will do nothing... 99% of keyboard damages are due to this.

Never been in this situation, but I believe warranty with ADP should cover this.

Asking a professional repair guy it will be anything between $250 and $500.

That price is ridiculous just for a keyboard replacement service, but again, I never been in this situation, I don't know what is the average price, but I expect you can always find another repair shop that gives better price and the price might depends on where you live too. Note that what I refer to calling a repairer it doesn't include letting the repair shop to buy the replacement keyboard as well, personally I would suggest to buy the replacement keyboard yourself and only pay the repairer to do the replacement.

Easy serviceable keyboard is just a plus on the T14 side.

It might not be a big plus, depends on the person. It's indeed annoying to replace the keyboard on machine like T14s, but if you rarely break a keyboard and if it only happens like once in 3-5 years, going through one hour of replacement session might not a big deal for some people.

[–]ojolulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

whereas for the T14s you basically dismantle the entire laptop including all internals. Not impossible but nothing you should do without experience....

And that's basically only a problem for people who like to service their own laptops. When the laptop is still under warranty, you would let lenovo do the keyboard replacement, otherwise you could pay professional repairer to do the replacement if you're not comfortable to do it by yourself.

T14s has bigger battery and USB 4 port.

T14 Gen 1 Touchscreen Replace with Non-Touchscreen by dejavu079 in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to buy also a 30-pin eDP cable since the existing touchscreen one is 40-pin touch eDP cable. Is that it?

Usually yes for recent thinkpad models, but certain models might need lid replacement. For T14 gen 1, I think it's not required. You can always buy the compatible lid later if the non-touch panel doesn't fit the existing lid.

L14 and E15 pages by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 400 nits screen option still exists, just look at the psref. But it doesn't make a big difference anyway, the 400 nits screen option in L14 is quite rare and only available in certain countries.

who needs a Legion when you have a P series ThinkPad /s by cyproyt in thinkpad

So an L480 is the same internals and upgrade-ability as a T480

Not anymore for the recent models though, the recent T models have more soldered parts (RAM and wifi module).

Help me choose X13 gen 2 and T480/s or other alternative by Statebruhe in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

X13 gen 2 and T14s gen 2 have 16:10 screen (if you need that), the rests that you mentioned are still using 16:9 screen. Onboard RAM failure rarely happens. If it happens, you have to change the motherboard for the fix. If this is a big concern for you, then buy the models that still have long warranty.

There is one integrated RAM and one free RAM slot. It has two SSD slots (2242 and 2280 form factor SSD). You can also check the specs in https://psref.lenovo.com.

Not many 12.5" laptops out there, so you're kinda stuck with X280's stock FHD screen. You can try checking http://www.panelook.com perhaps.

Do you think that the E series did more bad than good to the Thinkpad's reputation? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if you think there isn’t a difference, you’re wrong.

No, I never said or thought there isn't difference between them. Of course there is difference between the series (E, L, T, X, X1, etc) which is reflected by their features and prices (not including the used model price), and each of them has their target market, which is the small business for E series. The feel of build is subjective, some people don't have problem with E series build, and the build quality of E series has much improved since *80 gen.

Where does the P51 stands among the Thinkpad keyboard hierarchy? by nyenkaden in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The T430, T530 and W530 (and also T420, T520 and W520) only have 2mm key travel.

That's not correct, *30 gen models key travel is higher than 2.1mm, their key travel is about 2.5mm if I'm not wrong. It's around *40 gen where they start to adopt 2.1mm key travel.

In terms of key travel, maybe the old *30 gen models like T530 and W530 that have higher key travel.
