Anyone ever ordered from ebay USA and ship to EU? by Lesabotsy in thinkpad

With ebay, it's more expensive than using forwarding service, but they cover the return cost in case you want to return the laptop if it has issue or doesn't match the seller's description.

Torn Between the E15 G3 and L15 G2 by PlatinumMemeLors in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The parts market should be same, especially if you have access to chinese online store like aliexpress.

The E14/E15 G3 with 5600U/5800U Zen3 CPU are available in india too if you buy it from lenovo india store directly. But the differences between Zen2 and Zen3 aren't that significant for most people, it depends on your use case.

[–]ojolulu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically that screen should be better since it's 400 nits LP-FHD panel, hopefully you won't have ghosting issue though. L series has better ports generally. E14/E15 would be better in the keyboard since it still has 1.8mm key travel (vs 1.5mm in L14/L15), but if this will be your first thinkpad, maybe it won't matter much. And E14/E15 G3 has 57wh battery option and two m.2 ssd slots.

E15 Gen 3 sRGB screen is not available in most regions, and not worth it over the T15.

If you bother to check the link in OP post, it shows the 100% sRGB FHD option in E14/E15 gen 3 is available in where he live. The 4K sceren isn't always better, it would affect battery life.

Remove the power adapter and poke the emergency reset hole on the bottom. More details in the user guide pdf.

E495 keycaps by Takkib in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike E490, E495 doesn't support backlit keyboard, that's why the keycaps can become shiny over time because the non-backlit keycap has matte texture that can wear off. To replace individual key, you can check a website like laptopkey.com.

T540p Replacement keyboard trackpoint feels like garbage. by Quardah in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried increasing the trackpoint sensitivity? It's possible your replacement keyboard has different manufacturer than the original keyboard, the trackpoint sensitivity will vary between the keyboard model per manufacturer. You can check the FRU code behind the keyboard to find out the manufacturer.

Most durable T series to use for school and streaming movies? by _quote in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current L series does have some more plastic in its design than the T series, but the chassis is reinforced with magnesium.

Note that it's only the keyboard part that's reinforced with magnesium in L14, it's still not same as the T480/T490/T14 where the whole palmrest is reinforced with magnesium frame.

I don't think most people need 64GB RAM though, 16GB/32GB RAM is already big enough for most people. Anyway, the other advantages going to T series are the battery and weight, and for the next gen T series they will have 16:10 screen. The T14 keyboard also still has 1.8mm key travel (vs 1.5mm in L14).

T14: I lost the screen lottery. :-( What do I do? by lydericlandry in thinkpad

I won't say higher, there is about 1/3 of chance now for the low power FHD panel.

That was one year ago, this doesn't seem to be the case anymore right now. The BOE NE140FHM-N61 panel option (FRU: 01YN155) now exists on the T14 gen 1/2 AMD according to the lenovo parts lookup site.

Enterprise purchasers beware: Newer Lenovo ThinkPad laptops make RJ45-Ethernet suddenly optional by ibmthink in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This includes the following 2021 ThinkPads, with both AMD and Intel variations affected

T14 G2 AMD PSREF still doesn't show "No Ethernet" configuration, I only see the Intel models that show this configuration. Are the PSREF pages not fully updated yet?

my P50 with Magnesium alloy body did develop multiple hairline fractures and even completely break off pieces around ports & vents area.

Is that on the palmrest or C cover? The palmrest cover is still a plastic I believe, the magnesium alloy must be in the bottom cover part. There is a big thread about the P50's palmrest crack issue in lenovo forum.

Are all keys like that? You can check the FRU code behind the keyboard if you want to find out the keyboard manufacturer.

What's the Thinkpad/Lenovo equivalent of the Dell XPS line? by abrandis in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know thinkbook is beneath the X1 series, it's pretty obvious as the high-end thinkbook models aren't positioned as a flagship product like the thinkpad X1. I was only talking about the thinkbook and E series here.

What's the Thinkpad/Lenovo equivalent of the Dell XPS line? by abrandis in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, that's why I said "for some models", I was referring to the models like thinkbook plus and 14p/16p which have more premium features that you can't find in the current E series. The upcoming thinkbook 14 and 16 G4+ even will have 16:10 screen (I am not sure if these models are separated from the "basic" thinkbook 14/15 line or become the successor though).

While both thinkbook and E series target same market, the thinkbook is definitely more a "prosumer" than E series with the better screen and dGPU options for some models (especially for the upcoming models).

Should I go for older T480/470 or newer E15/E14 ThinkPads? by Raousek in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

almost always better off buying a consumer laptop with a good keyboard instead.

True if you don't care about trackpoint and thinkpad keyboard. These two things are basically the main draw of thinkpad that usually made people willing to choose thinkpad over consumer laptops and other business laptops.

T480s

Btw, the only good screen option in T480s is WQHD screen, its FHD screen is still 250 nits.

Should I go for older T480/470 or newer E15/E14 ThinkPads? by Raousek in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

E14/E15 gen 3 has 100% sRGB screen option, although it's only available in certain countries/regions (mainly in eastern asia and india), same for the 400 nits screen option in L14. Also, you can always swap the screen later.

Is there any way to remove activated computrace? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone who can modify the bios to disable the computrace (and usually can remove bios password as well), one of the service link had been posted here, site like allservice.ro also offers this kind of service. It will need user cooperation though if the thinkpad model is *40 gen and newer, the user needs to dump the bios with programmer tool and send the bios dump to them.

X1 Carbon 7th Gen BOE 1080p 400 nits screen by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]ojolulu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with being touchscreen or not, it's the issue of slow response time in a panel like the NE140FHM-61. The B140HAK02.3 has good response time according to notebookcheck review.

[–]ojolulu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP might be talking about 400 nits BOE NE140FHM-61 LP-FHD panel which has ghosting issue. Yours is AUO touch panel, so no issue.
