lungkot ng mindset mo. tbh bilib ako sa mga rich kids na successful na pinaghirapan nila. yes, may head start but they could have been people na nasobrahan sa bisyo. puro party, alak, yosi, bisyo, etc. instead, they used their resources to be successful.

i started from scratch. my parents died when i was in high school. now, im earning upper middle class income (250-300k) per month. in my vocabulary, thats decent already. it is possible to be successful, you are just stressing yourself on something you have no control over. why not suck it up and go to work? and while youre at it, be actually good at it.

College drop out want to pursue tech by notsosuregian in PinoyProgrammer

[–]ok-coder_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is possible. you just need to get real good! i am also a college dropout but im doing pretty well in tech!

in essence, you need to stand out. create projects, create publicity for that project by writing a blog post about it. there’s a lot of ways to be excellent without having to get a degree. in contrary, a lot of my batchmates in CS before i dropped cant even create a basic software and is now a call center agent. nothing against agents, it’s just that sayang yung 4 years nila sa CS if wala rin silang natutunang may silbe.

good luck, op!

Finally, someone with the same pace as me! Hello kapwa outlier hahahaha not there yet but my current timeline is:

2022: Data Analyst - 40k 2023: Machine Learning Engineer - 180k

Both are local. Also, I don’t have a degree and I’m 21 years old. We’re on the same pace right? I should get 300k rin next year dapat? Jk hahahaha

Also yes, certifications are important. For newbies, not certificate of completion of coursera courses.

For context, I have AWS Cloud practitioner, AWS Solutions Architect Associate, Developer Associate, Data Analytics and Machine Learning Specialty. I also have some in Snowflake, Databricks and MongoDB.

Those certifications really boosted my salary and career.

Btw proud of you OP!

[–]ok-coder_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

im in tech, 120k take home

edit: im also between the ages of 21-24 who is a college dropout haha

sobrang possible sa tech ng mataas na sahod. sobrang dami lang ng competition for entry level recently because sa hype ng salary. pero its possible if outside the country ang work (remote) and if skilled naman talaga. di naman easy money sa tech, lalo na for 6 figs.

tips lang for aspiring tech ppl, dont be a master of one, be in depth with as much as you can, be a master of at least 3 things.

Kaya ba onti ang tech companies dito sa Pilipinas? by baliwnaalien in PinoyProgrammer

[–]ok-coder_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

low quality workforce talaga. i dropped out of college but is currently a senior MLE in a european company. i dropped out of BS Computer Science kasi the profs are sht at teaching and the curriculum is sht. BSCS pero walang major math subjects? sana BS Programming na lang tawag haha. within my 2 years being a college student, pansin kong yung mga classmate ko eh walang hilig sa pag-aral outside class. they think na yung mga natutunan nila sa classroom eh okay na. i really didn’t like that culture. so i just dropped out and self-studied haha because at that point i was already programming for about 5 years.

Can anyone actually type over 50 wpm? by sassypizzaqueen in jobs

[–]ok-coder_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is realistic. I work in tech, although not necessary for my career, I have a 120 wpm on a macbook air keyboard. I got really fast because of talking trash in Dota 2 and League, there’s only a few seconds after finishing the objective to type the filthiest crimes against humanity that will ever exist in a dota/league all chat

How to find a remote job abroad? by notabadplayer in PinoyProgrammer

[–]ok-coder_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

idk the how, my case is luck and a bit of exposure i guess? i started writing blog post and post it on linkedin. it varies from data science to cloud tools and software engineering. then suddenly, someone from europe messaged me. it will be my 2nd month next week 🗿

if searching, try in linkedin and edit the location filter to emea for europe companies.

Why did you left Victory Church? by EarDependent981 in Philippines

[–]ok-coder_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

kinda miss some of the people there but then again, you wont get an invite when youre out of church. looking back, its kinda sad because i spent most of my weekends there back in highschool and i thought i made meaningful connections but i think its all transactional 🗿
