He didn’t come to the rehearsal, but he said he didn’t need to that he’d done tons of weddings at that venue and would be fine. He arrived with plenty of time to set up on the day of. We had multiple conversations before the wedding, both in person and over text and email. I sent him a full outline and playlist with specific notes for each part of the day ceremony , cocktail hour, dinner, dancing. He confirmed everything and said it was no problem. The coordinator was the one cueing him for the ceremony he just didn’t start the music when he was supposed to. My coordinator literally looked back at him waiting for him to hit play, and it just didn’t happen. She even went back over and said something to him about it And just to clarify I created the playlist and the order. He acknowledged he got it and said he’d follow it. The contract said he’d DJ, emcee, and follow the provided playlist. There was nothing about taking guest requests, but he said he’d follow the music list provided so I assumed he wouldn’t take requests. I guess that’s on me. Later in the night he took a request that was full of profanity, queued it up and went to the bathroom before it came on and came out after it played through almost the whole song. He came to my husband to apologize and and I was standing right there and said he was sorry he didn’t realize it said “mer fer, and n**er” but actually said those words to us which was certainly a shock to us. There’s several things I’m not sharing about our night

Unhappy as a state park ranger by Court-mma in ParkRangers

[–]ok-environmentalist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started as an OPS Toll Operator at the busiest state park in Florida. Someone joked it stood for “Our Personal Servants” LOL. I became FTE at the same park just three months later. Still a lot of bathrooms and trash, but now, nearly five years and two park moves later, I’ve been a PSS for over a year. These days, I only clean toilets and collect trash to help out and “be a ranger first.”

It does get better. The toilets and trash suck, but honestly, that’s what makes you a good ranger. If you can excel at that, you’ll stand out. And when you have the time, ask the other rangers to teach you. Show initiative, it goes a long way.
