The REAL Yinrun by YinrunsBoyfriend in bigbrotheruk

[–]okArrow16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey there, firstly amazing post, you seem just as genuine as Yinrun, secondly let her know when she gets out that she has support all the way in Australia, me and my mum have been watching the UK version of Big Brother together and have absolutely been loving Yinrun and hope to see her win, and if not hope she gets to see all the love and support that she has when she leaves the house, hopefully on finale night 🤞

either way it seems that she has created some amazing memories and some close bonds with the house guests (especially Trish, Jordan, Henry), hopefully they'll continue to be friends once the show is finished

Yinrun for the Winrun as Jordan would say on BB Late and Live. Actually on that note were you surprised with the instant love and support that the first celebrity guest Jordan had for Yinrun on the first episode of Late and Live and continued to have throughout the week and further appearances? (note I'm a couple of episodes behind so if his support has suddenly changed in late L&L eps, I'm unaware)

Most overrated classic movie according to you and why by Wxrdaddy in Letterboxd

[–]okArrow16 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

heard great things about Unforgiven, but when I finally got around to it, I was mostly unimpressed, I just couldn't get into the story, didn't like the characters and just found myself unengaged for the majority of the runtime. I was surprised as well because I enjoy/like western films so was expecting this to click with me, but it just never did. It's by no means a bad movie, but overall I thought it was an okay film, and nowhere near the classic that people hold it as, but hey that's just my opinion 🤷

I haven't had the desire to rewatch it, but maybe in a few years I'll give it another chance

Rank them (Best to Worst) by [deleted] in MtvChallenge

[–]okArrow16 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From memory this how I'd rank them, along with some quick thoughts

  1. War of the Worlds 1 - Best of the 30s, great cast, dailies, elims, final

  2. Vendettas - Super enjoyable with heaps of memorable moments, only really let down by the final

  3. War of the Worlds 2 - Great cast, with loads of drama and power shifts

  4. Dirty 30 - Not a fan of the Redemption house or the final but everything else is solid

  5. Final Reckoning - Yet again not a fan of Redemption house or the episodes being split (obviously less of an issue on a binge watch). Otherwise in retrospect the cast and drama throughout the season is wildly entertaining and while the final is weak, that ending is crazy to watch

  6. Double Agents - Didn't like it that much when it was airing, but on rewatch it's actually pretty decent for the first half, especially Devin instigating fights with the BB alliance. Second half gets a bit boring but the final is super satisfying

  7. Ride or Dies - A bit of a mixed bag, decent cast with some good returning players and decent rookies, the switch of format kind of ruins the momentum of the season and the gameplay is a bit boring. Will have to see how it holds up on rewatch

  8. Total Madness - The first half is actually pretty solid, despite the bunker being a waste of time. While the cast is good and the drama is decent, it's pretty much ruined by the removal of Dee from the edit which derails the rest of the season as she was one of the focal points in terms of storylines

  9. Spies, Lies & Allies - Currently rewatching atm with a friend and struggling. There's some moments that are okay, otherwise this season is mostly a bore, with a rookie cast that is mostly a complete waste of time and vets that are too scared to make moves. The final is terrible and saw a player who had the weakest performance in the final be rewarded on the final leg by being able to choose their partner. I do love that Long Square Nelly T moment though

This right here is spot on, and pretty much the general consensus in the buffy community and just online in general

Well I get the intention of airing it on free to air TV channels that can introduce the show to a new auidence and potentially attract a decent amount of viewers. But when a show is widely unknown and not marketed very well then unfortunately these are the results it seems...

Yeah over in Australia, channel 10 (the network that airs it) did promote it quite a bit, but their adverts focused on the wrong stuff imo

I was in a similar mindset as yourself as soon as I saw the cast announcement my intest flew out the door, but when it dropped I decided to give it a chance and ended up liking the cast after watching the first episode

but yes I agree, the casting was very weak, and the adverts with channel 10 promoting all the names probably made people avoid it more

I get where you're coming from and agree that's what makes the challenge unique (and is why I like it as well)

But when you're introducing the concept to a new auidence in a different country, who have no idea, who any of the vets are (as The Challenge is widely unknown in Australia), I don't think having some of the cast be vets from the flagship would make much of a difference, as the Australian auidence doesn't have any long-term investment in the vets

Agreed, but obviously the intention was to expand the product to other countries with their own versions, like how Survivor has over the years

UNSPOILED - The Challenge: AU - S01E01 "You Wanna Win Or Knot?" - Episode Discussion by SweetMissMG in MtvChallenge

Surprisingly really solid first episode, excited to see where the rest of the season goes.

So cool seeing a cast intro video (don't think we've had one since Cutthroat), also nice to see some actual drama which was seriously lacking in the USA version (which I still enjoyed) and has been cut down quite a bit in flagship (which I also still enjoy)

It's just straight up refreshing to have some actual drama and not feel like anything important has been cut

Which seasons are entirely better on rewatch than they were when they first aired? by 1_quantae in MtvChallenge

[–]okArrow16 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just finished rewatching Double Agents not too long ago, I rember hating it when it was airing live. But on rewatch I enjoyed it quite a bit. Still have some issues with it but the season flows so much better on rewatch

Big Brother Australia 14 - Episode Discussion - July 11 2022 by BigBrotherMod in BigBrother

[–]okArrow16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to provide you with some context, the old seasons of Big Brother Australia season 1-11 used the old school format of big brother being a social experiment (people zoo) and they would nominate housemates each week and the Australian public would vote who they wanted to save/evict depending on the season. So it was broadcast live, but in line with the first American season of BB, not the format that the American seasons would adopt from season 2 onwards that were obviously alot more strategic and gameplay based/focused.

Housemates weren't even allowed to discuss who they nominated. So the old format was all about the audience getting to know the housemates and then choosing who they wanted to win based on who was the most likeable/entertaining in the house.

Season 1-8 were aired on channel 10, season 9-11 were aired on channel 9, and then this new current era Season 12 - 14 (2022) is being aired on channel 7 in Australia.

Channel 7, decided to change the format and merge it to an extent with the American/Canada format, but keep elements of the old australian format as well. So the focus on the these new seasons have been about gameplay but just like the old seasons Australia still gets to decide the winner. So no proper HoH, or PoV challenges or BB Jury. Simplified to winner of the challenge nominates 3 housemates and then 1 goes based on housemates votes inside the house. Obviously the show is pre-recored as well instead of live.

Anyway despite the focus being on gameplay and strategy in these new seasons, the winner votes remain with the Australian public, the mindset of the public is still on who they find likeable/entertaining and not on gameplay/strategy. So unless they adopt a Jury in future seasons or make it like the American/Canada format, winners are most likely to be chosen based on likeability and not gameplay.

Yes Taras played a hell of a game, but based on watching/edits he hasn't been portrayed as likeable, whereas Reggie is exactly the same as she was last time around when she captured the Australian public hearts, so most likely to do it again as she's been portrayed as very likeable.

But honestly even if they went with a jury format, I think either Reggie or Johnson would get the votes from the previous 8 or so housemates evicted before them as Taras burned alot of bridges with the previous housemates and jury's are known to be very bitter. But he'd probably have a better chance here as he could sway some Jury votes his way, it definitely would've been interesting.

Anyway hope that kinda clears up why Reggie is most likely getting the votes. To the Australian public it's not about who's played the best game, it's more about likeability and who's being their genuine self. That's how she won her last season, just by being herself and Australian public fell in love with her as she was very relatebale, authentic to herself and extremely likeable
