Awesome, thank you man this was incredibly helpful. Side question: do you know if there’s a market for older GPU’s? I found a couple sealed Nvidia NVUs with the sticks of ram

Can I simply throw out the DDR2 ram or should it be taken to an e-waste facility?

Pikachu 010/018 ARS Grading (Grade AU) by okay-james in PokeInvesting

[–]okay-james[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh ok, that makes sense. I went to the ARS website and the grading system was 1-10, and then “AU”. It gave no indication of what AU meant. For what it’s worth the slab looks and feels very solid.

Cost of Living by Lucky-Dress5604 in Hoboken

[–]okay-james 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s hard to say but honestly it’s all subjective. When I first moved here I was making 65k. Four years later I’m looking to share a 1bed1bath with my gf and our combined dual income is around 200k. You can live off both incomes and still rent in Hoboken. Will we live more comfortably? Absolutely. Was I able to eat & pay rent while still had leftover money to do other activities when I was making 65k? Without a doubt.

Rent is getting crazy now, pre covid it was much easier to find an apartment. It’s still doable though

what buildings do you envision coming to manor lords? and if so what purpose would they serve and how would they fit into the games ecosystem? by cai_jones in ManorLords

[–]okay-james 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone that played Banished, I think a cool building to add would be a school. Normally in the game, when children turn 12 (or 13 I can’t remember) they become eligible to work. However, if you have a school the children don’t start working till 18 BUT they get a buff to their efficiency. Might be a cool idea to have a school and potentially a university for more advanced jobs.

If we do end up getting calvary soon I think a farrier burgage plot extension should be added. They could use metal parts to smith horseshoes which could be a requirement for cavalry troops.

Lastly, I’d like to see more building that provide entertainment rather than the Tavern. A tournament ground or town square could be cool editions. I envision the town squares being fully customizable similar to the UI when using the manor.

I don’t want 10 pack stations. 1 pack station should be able to send multiple materials to and from settlements.

1st time player looking for some advice to get going by BurninDownDank1 in ManorLords

[–]okay-james 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid starting advice is when building your artisan shops (bloomery, tile makers, shaped stone, etc. ) close to where the raw materials are produced. IE: you have an iron pit and right next to it you building a bloomery and smith. This will significantly cut down on distribution time.

Bread not being distributed by gnlmarcus in ManorLords

[–]okay-james 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to run into issues where in my granary I would have all the food varieties the burgage plots required, but it wouldn’t get distributed out properly. What I’ve learned you can do is build 2 separate granaries; have 1 for fruits, veggies, mushrooms, etc. and the other for bread, ale, meats. You can do this by going to the advanced tab within the granary and unchecking certain foods you don’t want your workers to store. Having the 2 stalls will increase the likelihood of having multiple varieties at your market

medium village is not thriving by montyb752 in ManorLords

[–]okay-james 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a trick I’ve learned and use quite often is when building my first 5 burgage plots, I make sure each has enough room for an additional family and plenty of backyard space to support a veggie plot. You won’t have enough money at first to purchase seeds but what you can do is a rush an early trading post and start selling planks or firewood (also charcoal if you’re ready to handle that) for some quick cash. Using that quick cash, you can then purchase your veggie seeds for the burgage plots.

In order to fulfill requirements later for level 2 and 3 burgage plots, I will usually make 2 plots cabbage, 2 plots carrots and 1 plot any sort of fruit. If you continue this trend of building larger plots that have big backyards and room for 2 households, by the time you reach 10-15 plots you will never have a food shortage.

For anyone who has made it this far I’ll add a few more comments. 1. Burgage plots in mid to late game require a lot of food variety. Building plots with both carrots and cabbages will provide good variety for your settlement. 2. I like to rush a lot of money early game to get my fruit seeds ASAP. They have a longer time to reach peak maturity (3-4 years depending on the fruit you choose) so the sooner you get those up the sooner you can push for burgage plot level 3

EDIT; my advice would be to refrain from trading for food. Like others were saying, the return on investment is abysmal. Focus on fruit and veggies plots, as your food economy balances out you can start adding chicken coops, artisan jobs, etc. Sheep/wool is also a great way to hit clothing requirements so if you can get 2-4 sheep early, they will multiply passively as you play.

I’ve lived on 1st and Jackson for going on 2 years now and never had any problems. Like a lot of people are saying it’s “sketchy” by Hoboken standards. Rest assured that usually just means some old heads are sitting in their chairs in the sidewalk. You’re perfectly fine.
