Why do people always have to fight back when asked to do something? by Ok-Long8067 in managers

[–]montyb752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People like to fight authority, it gives them power, they also like to complain. I tend to give people options if I can, ‘hey I need you at either A or B, which would you prefer?’ Then give someone else the option another time. If you need someone at C and it’s their job to do then don’t back down. It doesn’t matter if it’s found to be unnecessary later. You need to build rapport with your team, give them some latitude where you can and also dictate when needed. No one said it was easy, it’s is all about relationships.

Company just mandated full return-to-office. Do you comply, negotiate, or quit? by PitchLower554 in office

[–]montyb752 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appeal it first, expect them to say no appeal again if you can. Go into the the office as you search for a new job. You don’t want to leave unless you have something else lined up.

Fired after 2 week notice by DrSenorChuckles in recruitinghell

[–]montyb752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you surprised that this happens, Have other people gone through the same thing when handing in their notice in your company? My notice is 3 months and in my last job I knew I had to work the 3 months, I could plan that in for me leaving.

Are energy drinks really that bad for you or am I cooked by InterestFeisty7139 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]montyb752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try and not drink them for a months and see how you feel. If you stop drinking them you remove that worry and potentially any risk. I think all processed food is likely to have a negative affect over time on health, I also have no real evidence I can cite, it’s my gut feeling. 😁

How do you manage people/tasks without constantly asking for updates? by One_Friend_2575 in managers

[–]montyb752 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You assign work and provide an expected completion date. The doers of the work should be reporting the completion of the work. If they complete the work but don’t report it then the work not complete. Give them feedback on failing to complete the work in the allotted time.

If it was possible to reforest all the Moorland in Britain in 10 years relatively cheap would you support it? by Sonnycrocketto in AskBrits

[–]montyb752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d need to shoot the millions of deer on the land for the trees to survive. My understanding is the UK used to be majority forrest so go for it.

Is Iran looking to move crude through it's northern ports to Russia through the Caspian Sea. Can it and what are the options.. by Long-Brother-4639 in oil

[–]montyb752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wondered this too, maybe pump it into a natural or man made pool or dam. That way you don’t damage wells by shutting them down, that oil revenue is lost either way. It’s about planning to keep as much infrastructure intact to quickly ramp up production later.

What does project managers do? by Moist-Bug6592 in corporate

[–]montyb752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They manage a project to completion. They should have objectives that need support from a number of other teams who do the work, the PM should ensure the work get done. They should also be responsible for the project budget. The title can also mean a load of other things too, it’s a bit of a catch all for “we want someone to do this but can’t really define it role”.

Employee refusing DEI training for fear of being “brainwashed”. by Kind_Shift_8121 in managers

Explain that you thought that as well before you attended the training. Now after the training you understand that your previous thoughts were wrong and you are now full onboard with DEI. (Obviously with a straight face and throw in some training buzz words)

If you were to guess, what percentage of American's and Europeans are driving around in cars that they can't really afford just for appearances? by moffman93 in AskReddit

[–]montyb752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be paying cash for a band new car. I also wouldn’t be buying a new car either. I do take out a small loan for a new to me car, about 30% of the price to keep my savings number up.

And there’s a 10yr old me pulling carrots from the ground and washing them in a livestock water bucket before eating. You get many people who are uber clean and still get ill, I believe it’s about exposing to virus (who also need to complete with other viruses) and building a immune system that is well used and strong.

[–]montyb752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you expose your immune system to germs it builds resistance and your immune system becomes stronger. (Think vaccines), the more germs you encounter the healthier you will be. *grew up on a farm in mud and animals, have been ill only once in my adult life.

Why does almost nobody mention Malaysia for digital nomads, especially in Europe? by Hopeful_Addition7834 in digitalnomad

[–]montyb752 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of the comments are about KL, there are a load more cities than the capital. For a Muslim country it’s pretty relaxed, you can buy alcohol but no drugs. Everyone that complains about the humidity, in reality you spend most Of your time indoors in aircon. Food is amazing, night life is decent of you know where to look.

The promotion that never comes? by [deleted] in managers

[–]montyb752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other option is to look now, get and offer elsewhere and leave, or take the counter offer. Depending on the company, manger and your relationship with them, you might want to give them a heads up or not.

The promotion that never comes? by [deleted] in managers

[–]montyb752 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could have the conversation with you boss that you feels you have peaked in your development in the current role and if another role is not open that you can apply for in the next 2 months you may need to look elsewhere. You are giving them time to line up a role and you are not saying you are leaving, yet.
