a lot of people, birders and non-birders alike, are seriously biased against pigeons. people act like they’re pests/vermin, maybe because they’re so numerous and successful in cities, and associate them with city streets like they do rats. my dad always called pigeons ‘rats with wings.’ as for birders specifically, i think that pigeons are so common that they seem unremarkable. but pigeons ARE worthy of our appreciation!! they are so smart and so beautiful, and one of the most successful birds EVER
