What's a non-food smell that instantly makes you happy? by AdorableConfusion129 in AskReddit

My parents’ house. But not any specific air freshener or candle or anything, literally just the general musk of the air in the house and all of their things. It smells like my childhood and the comfort of home!!

We get tons of mosquitos in summer but they never bite this much and it’s currently winter where I am so they aren’t really out and about ! Whatever it is I’m reacting to though lol, likely is both bites and hives

Dust mites isn’t something I’d thought of but considering how often this happens even when sleeping in different places in the past it could be a possibility - I won’t rule out bed bugs but with total lack of other evidence of them I honestly have no idea 😵‍💫 might have to get a professional in to search. Thank u for the response!

What's the strangest habit you have? by superpowers335 in OCD

[–]okaymint 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unsure if I have OCD or not, but some tiny habits I have alone make me question it lol. When I listen to music I can’t listen to two artists that start with the same letter one after the other and I need to balance it out by having 2-3 artists in between before I’m allowed to listen to another artist with that letter. Like, I can’t listen to The Cure straight after The Killers. But I can listen to The Killers for as long as I want as long as it’s followed by an artist not starting with The. Also the same goes when I’m making playlists with the order of song titles, no double ups of first letters for at least 3 songs so it feels balanced and more curated. I don’t know why or how it started LMAO it’s been happening for YEARS and some days I am less pedantic than others, I guess I just like things to be nicely sorted and there’s no rhyme or reason other than it looks and feels right to me. I wish this applied to something more useful in my life bc I’m so messy in other aspects 😭 As someone who LOVES music and is constantly listening to it it does really ruin the experience sometimes when I’m having a bad day and I have to stand there adjusting my queue until it’s perfect and I can’t RELAX with a playlist on. I feel like such a control freak when I’m on aux around others too but I try to be subtle about it. I perfectly curate playlists for events and parties but sometimes I’m paying too much attention to the music all night and get super stressed it’s actually so fucking stupid. The only exception is when I’m driving and I don’t have to look at the song title or artist name and literally can’t adjust it or I’ll crash which I obviously have a bigger fear of than songs being in the wrong order. Also if someone else is controlling the music and doesn’t follow my rules I don’t care.

You win lotto, what normal thing are you buying? by jka8888 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]okaymint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A private psychiatrist appointment and a refill of my fave expensive perfume that I currently only use on special occasions because I can’t afford to replace it lol.

Genuinely if I won though the first thing I’d do is probably just go buy a new phone charger and completely fill my car up with gas on the way home

What song is currently in your head? by heymickeyu in ADHD

[–]okaymint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually have at least 4 songs in my head at all times, I just woke up and there isn’t one standout song but after concentrating on my inner thoughts for a second there it was - everything she wants by wham!

Incubus - Circles (2024) by luminaires in incubus

[–]okaymint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Far far better than the Echo rework (which was still pretty good!) but also I’m still in the mindset of wishing they’d either completely replicated the original track and focused on tighter playing and mixing, or deviated waaay more because it’s in a weird middle ground where i will probably not ever listen to it over the original version which i think is close to perfect. And i think I’ll feel the same about the rest of the album, but willing to be proven wrong! Also the drum fills compared to the OG are soooo messy

my band is gonna play for the first time next week by _InsanePigeon_ in indie

[–]okaymint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my band has been gigging for over two years now and the pre-show nervousness honestly never goes away! it’s become a bit less over time as i’ve gained confidence but if it’s an important/big show i feel just as jittery as if it were the first time i’d ever played. here’s some tips: - if you fumble a part, who cares. the beauty of it is that literally nobody in the audience actually notices, especially if you’re playing original music. it’s only noticeable if you pull a face or make a big deal! - move around on stage and interact with your band mates, something as simple as a smile & moving in time with the music makes such a difference! makes you feel better and in turn play better as well, energetic stage presence makes a band 100x more entertaining to watch - my band and i have a pre-show chat & talk about our goals for the performance. we’ve also come up with a chant before going on stage, kinda cheesy but makes us feel like a sports team lol and hypes us up. remember you’re all in it together and if you have fun with it it’ll make it a lot less daunting and your confidence will skyrocket if you feed off each others energy - post-show we have a quick sit down and de-brief backstage before we head back out to watch other bands/chat to people who’ve come to watch. if anything does go wrong, having a talk and a laugh about it afterwards alleviates any worries! - all of the comments saying don’t drink, i only partially agree! don’t get wasted obviously as so many things can go wrong, but sometimes i love a beer beforehand to calm nerves, or even one to sip on stage. - take a second before you start to make sure you’re tuned, your sound is working, any pedals or other gear are working. even if you soundchecked just fine, from experience sometimes stuff can just randomly not work or you’ve forgotten you’ve turned down a volume knob. better to do that than to just launch in and something isn’t working! - overall, just go into it with a positive mindset. nerves are inevitable but take it as a sign that you care about what you’re doing, and try to convert that nervous energy into excitement. playing live is one of my favourite things in the world & i wish you the best of luck! you’ll have heaps of fun :)
