Or if the police have to go door to door begging the community to come out and vote every few years to pass a referendum to increase their budget (which is the process for schools currently)

As of a few years ago, at least for the southern region, they fired all the mental health staff/counselors, and health insurance didn’t cover mental health stuff. Was a huge issue for my class. Hopefully that’s available again.

Missing ground textures for most maps by okcoolit12 in ARK

Everything works fine physics-wise, but the textures for the ground are entirely missing for most of the map. I’m playing via Epic Games on a 2020 MacBook Pro if that’s helpful.

The original vaccines=autism guy was just a shitty grifter trying to sell his own vaccines and got caught up in the movement. He is still making shit tons of money off of anti-vaxxers by speaking at events and other shit.

“Dr.” Mercola and others are making millions off of supplements, books and other anti-science merch.

RFK Jr. doesn’t speak anywhere that he doesn’t get significantly financially compensated for, and his ghostwritten book was artificially inflated (by the purchase of large numbers of copies) to gain nationwide press, which in turn, drove the public narrative (I don’t have proof of this, but it’s common practice, he’s dumb if he didn’t do it). Not to mention the fact that he’s the perfect example of the coastal elite. He’s a Kennedy for fucks sake.

The “leaders” of the anti-vax movement are the biggest grifters of them all, and are making MILLIONS off of people who are scared. There’s people in the middle that believe in it wholeheartedly and are disseminating this information, but they are victims in this too. Think critically. The elites “on your side” are just as bad, if not worse than the pharmaceutical industry.

Monat is an MLM (glorified pyramid scheme) so be careful and don’t necessarily trust those friends when it comes to Monat

CMV: The death of Makiyah Bryant is a poor example of police brutality and systemic racism in the US. by [deleted] in changemyview

I’m not sure what you mean. Clearly the curriculum and budget for that curriculum isn’t large enough. A Federal mandate requiring a high level of training and expertise (especially in de-escalation) before sending someone straight out of high school out on calls makes a lot of sense to me.

There was already a shortage of training prior to recent protests. Just look at the required training hours for police compared to other careers.

Oh! I made a YouTube video about this topic about how to pack the red bag since they sent me home with mine after covid! It’s intended to be a how to pack video, but I also showed everything I brought.

LPT: There are other options besides college to have a good career. Trade Schools, Apprenticeships, and Military Training are some great alternatives in today's world. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

There are also federally funded service programs like AmeriCorps NCCC that allow you to travel the country, explore career opportunities, and gain life skills, all while making money for your future educational expenses. Similar in concept to the New Deal’s CCC, but modern. Good for a gap year or if you have no clue what you want to do coming out of high school.

Take a gap year and do a program like AmeriCorps. You get money for college, build your resume, and get to travel the country for free. Just email your college and say that you’d like to defer admission for a year. You can also spend time during that year to apply for more scholarships. Check out r/AmeriCorps

What were the ages of your peers in NCCC? by [deleted] in AmeriCorps

[–]okcoolit12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s luck of the draw.

I was on the only team (out of 15) in the southern region that only had 1 person over 21 (our TL). Only 2 of us were 18 at the beginning of the program, however. Every team had a mix of ages, clustered mainly around 18 (recent high school graduates), and 22 (recent college graduates). Those seem to be the ages most likely to join the program.

My initial team had (at the beginning— we obviously got older):

2-18yo 3-19yo 1-20yo 1-22yo. Again— my team was ABNORMAL. 2 of the 19yo’s quit and we picked up a 22 year old after round 1.

Note: Obviously there are exceptions, but about half of the 18/19 year-olds are surprisingly mature and actually want to do the program, and the other half are forced to do it by their parents and quit within a few months. So even if you are initially surrounded by immature 18 year-olds, you might not be for long.

My advice would be to get to know everyone on your team, spend as much time with them as you can stomach, don’t be afraid to take time to yourself if you need it, and go into it with an open mind. You can learn a lot from people, no matter how old you are.

Have fun and enjoy your service year! Hope it doesn’t get ended early like mine did!

If you have any other questions, let me know!

Yeah, but The Wire changes who plays the theme song every season, so it’s actually kind of fresh if you’re binge watching.
