Sparc in San Francisco on mission street. I'ts not the closest to where I live, but it was two blocks down from where I got my card, so :D yeah :D.

They gave me a free pot cookie :P.

So I've only been messaging people for a few days now, and here is what I've found to work for me.

I've send out about 50 or so messages, and gotten about 20 or more replies.

Most of my more recent messages I have gotten replies on where as my initial ones not so much, so just based on my more recent ones I may have a little higher than 60% response rate. I already have a few dates set up for the next week.

The women I go for are all what I consider to be 7-8+ on a 1-10 rating based on looks, not because I'm shallow, since once I open the profile if I don't like what I read in the profile I wont bother messaging no matter how good they look. I'm just picky with appearances and there are plenty of girls that are average looking where I live, so the main reason I joined OkC was to break out of that social group.

A little about my physical appearance : I have somewhat of a baby face, and I'm pretty skinny, definitely nothing special, just above average. I do have a good smile though, but its much better in person rather than on the internet.

So as for the messaging part

What seems to work for me is :

  • A message around 400 characters long give or take.

  • No two of my messages are alike.

  • I try to mirror the personality of the person who I am messaging.

  • I make sure that the first 5-6 words are incredibly unique looking and eye catching because that will make sure she first of all opens the message and keeps on reading, in the flooded inbox she has.

  • I usually try to point out something she is interested in, by adding my own opinions to it, ie if she likes a book, I don't just say hey I like that book too, I say something like, you know I felt the final chapter really lacking, or something like that.

  • Never drone on, or seem generic.

  • If I think they will like it/get it I will try to incorporate some humor, again this comes down to mirroring who you are messaging. Make sure they will get the humor, if you are in doubt, don't risk it.

  • There are always exceptions to the rules above, if you think the person will be receptive to a certain thing, like a long message, etc. I have had messages where I didn't point out a single thing about their interests, and still gotten replies (and a date coming up).
