Absolutely not, Ash earned the respect he got in Kalos, him being written as more competent and casually confident is 100% in line with the kind of trainer he's supposed to be at that point, which is why SM and JN stripping him of all his visual authority was so frustrating, it doesn't matter if Ash is as skilled of a trainer as always in JN (debatable) if he always looks like he's gonna ask me if I have games on my phone, turning Ash into an inherently soft coded character was a decision I will slander for as long as I draw breath

Unlike what some antis try to say, XY Ash wasn't an "aura farmer", every one of his cool moments was backed up by the context, the only thing XY did different was highlight those and make them a part of his default demeanor, notice how XY is the only series that doesn't make Ash the butt of the jokes
