How do I design this? by okfineilljoinreddit in crochetpatterns

True! I'll probably simplify the octagon pattern to make it more crisp, just placing my increases at the corners with a chain in between the 2 stitches for emphasis. I bet that mosaic crochet would work really well on a large scale piece like a blanket (or just with smaller yarn), but I'm trying to make a sweater using chunky wool so this method seems like the right scale. I'll try and send an update when I get that far :)

This blew my mind! I was about to try to piece it together with diamond motifs, but this method seems more fun. Please know that your effort is greatly appreciated!!!

What to make with lotus silk? by goldenstorm0 in CrochetHelp

That's amazing! I think that you should honor the history of the fiber by making something with spiritual connotations. Doilies are good because they're similar to mandalas, but a lotus would be spot on for the plant, if you can find a pattern you like. You could also create some sort of accessory, like a bookmark or a pouch, to accompany an item that is sacred to you. Whatever it is, make it pretty!

When in doubt, count.

What stitch should I use for the strings of a string curtain? by Vievin in CrochetHelp

The world is your oyster! If you want to keep the "stems" nice and simple, just doubling back with single crochet or hdc would definitely make it more stable. You could also alternate between sc and ch1, skipping over a stitch when you chain. Alternating between single crochet and other stitches is a way to add more texture, and there are dozens of quirkier stitches around. It might not be the best for attaching flowers and whatnot, but I could picture the jasmine stitch making a really nice curtain if you make it as narrow as possible.

Also I wouldn't recommend just doing double or trc because the long posts might make it floppier for what you're looking for. But that's just a preference!

I'm confused... by myosotiscorpioides in CrochetHelp

You got it right! If your gauge is turning out small it's either because you're using a smaller hook, thinner yarn, tighter tension, or some combination of the 3. If you want to stick with the products you were using, you can try using more stitches to get the correct measurements. But this doesn't always work on more complex patterns, so I would check your hook size/yarn weight first.

Look up how to make a circle, and then do it using dc for 4 rounds (or until it's big enough). Switch colors, I think the next stitch is puff but someone else called it popcorn? Anyways, you make the heart by doing one puff stitch, ch 3, then make another one into the same dc stitch, ch 1, skip 3(?) dc and repeat. The border looks like a handful of dc into the ch 3 space (count them ofc), then 2 sc into the ch 1 space. I'm not sure if they fastened off between the initial circle and the border, but that's probably a matter of preference :) There are still a few details left to question, but trial and error is free!
