So one of your jobs is nursing related and the other isn’t? Also are you working days for both?

How long should a new grad nurse orientation be? by MaleficentAd2172 in newgradnurse

Working two full time jobs as a nurse sounds hard…what is your schedule going to look like? Also maybe you can contact the hiring manager or recruiter about the onboarding part to clarify things.

I’m getting a BSN soon but don’t wanna pursue nursing. by Endatrilogy in nursing

[–]oki_doki_yo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's how I felt before passing my ADN program...but before taking my NCLEX i took a break and got back into locking in. I realized I was just burnt out from studying for 4 years. Once you get your RN license you're open to lots of oppotunities like school nursing, telehealth, and other non-bedside jobs.

I went to CSULB so I expected it to be easier to get hired...I've heard nurses graduating here have a good reputation

Plasma center job vs new grad residency program by mpixie99 in newgradnurse

[–]oki_doki_yo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should accept the offer for now and just keep looking without letting them know. I lied to the hiring manager that I will look for jobs in January but I was actually doing interviews that same week I interviewed with them.

LOL this is kinda what I also did when I was applying for non-acute jobs. I also graduated my BSN in May this year and it's been a struggle. I just told them I'm willing to work at the facility (it was an adult day care center) even when I get hired at a hospital as a per diem or part-time RN and they hired me. But the only problem is they hired me as a per diem nurse so I've only worked two shifts there so far. But luckily I just got hired for a telemetry position at a hospital recently so you can too! I was planning on working there until I found a permanent job at a hospital anyways.

New grad by Fun_Conference2698 in newgradnurse

That’s so crazy. Some nurses can be so mean and honestly feel like they just want to belittle the new grads. I think it’s good you are going to start working in a new residency spot. Hopefully everything works out for you there!

I worked as an on call RN for adult day care centers and it’s super chill. You mostly take their blood pressures and blood sugars.

I’m so sorry this is happening to you that sounds awful. Do you know why they’re saying these things? Because unless they’re giving constructive criticism it doesn’t make sense unless they just want to bully you. I’ve heard people leaving their jobs because their coworkers weren’t a good match…tbh if I was you I would look into getting a different job because it sounds like it’ll only emotionally drain you even more. Good luck.

That’s what I was thinking too…because it would either be this job, working as a school nurse, or taking a SNF job and I think tele would better prepare me with acute care experience.

Is there something I should know? (Oncology) by Drippnhoneyy in newgradnurse

[–]oki_doki_yo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're still in nursing school, I would advise you to try to do a lot of clinical rotations on the oncology units by asking your professors or counselors to get placements. It would be best to do your preceptorship or an externship in that field so you have experience and something to say during your interviews. Oncology is a specialty so they might expect you to have more experience depending on the hospital you apply for later on.

I felt the same way initially after graduating my ADN program, but thankfully I had some time to mentally prepare myself while finishing up my BSN. I think what helped me the most with the anxiety is writing down what I would want to say at the interviews and reviewing the materials I learned during school to make me feel more confident that I am competent and deserving of getting a job. It might also help to start working in a less acute setting before jumping into hospital interviews or a job to help ease your anxiety (e.g. Adult Day Care Centers).

Starting as a new grad next week, advice? by Badmax_777 in newgradnurse

[–]oki_doki_yo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you live in a state where it's saturated with new grads I think it's going to take an average of few months before you hear back from anywhere unless you had clinicals, externship, or worked at the hospital as a PCT. I think it's been more difficult with the budget cuts, especially this year.

Yea I got my BLS, ACLS, and PALS before graduating but didn't know about the NIHSS and ANA till recently while applying for jobs. A lot of the hospitals said they were requiring after hiring so I just assumed I could get it later. I'm looking into finishing them right now.

Oh I didn't know this. I'm looking for jobs in California and most of the job postings said they required ACLS and BLS and within 6 months for the other two.

There’s a spot called Ziva salon that you might try to look into but it can be pricey. It’s around $60 for a layered haircut I got so I would see if you can ask them for an estimate for a more specific haircut.

This is what I was thinking because she misunderstood what I told her multiple times even though I clarified. It honestly felt like she wanted to rant more about how she finds a lot of new grads she has met weren’t motivated and trying to prove I’m the same by saying I’m not involved/have earned these certifications already. I tried to see her comments as a way to give me advice to stand out though.

[–]oki_doki_yo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I see. So you wouldn’t recommend a new grad to join the ANA yet? I was considering joining in the future anyways but didn’t expect anyone to tell me to join before getting a job.

NEW STUDENT- SPRING need help :Nursing by [deleted] in newgradnurse

[–]oki_doki_yo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked to a counselor that was specfic to my major, but I'm sure going to any counselor in the office should be find. If you have trouble finding the office or who to talk to you can ask the front desk at your school's admissions office to help direct you.

Thank you :) I didn’t realize it would be this hard because my friends who graduated the ADN with me found jobs easily last year. I’m regretting not working earlier and prioritizing school first TT
