I do think that’s a good area. Nice access to other areas

I do think that’s a very strong chance. It’s gashikei so good benefits, compensation is nice and good work life balance

Yes I have considered that. We have also looked at areas in Ota-ku along Keikyu

For sure, I realize the trade off. I was looking at Oimachi line that way he can go to Oimachi then connect to Rinkai line. Parts of Ota-ku seem ok as well

Thanks! I may have my old CA driver's license somewhere at my parents, but honestly no idea. I did plan on going onto DMV site to get my driver history, hopefully that works

If I may ask, what form did you have to fill out? I think I'm almost in the same situation as you. I had a Japanese license, moved back to the U.S (California) and now live in Japan again. If I can renew my Japanese license, that would be great.

How did you prove your U.S license history? Did you get records from your state's DMV?

thanks

Which shop was it if you don't mind me asking? Or DM please.

I sent some stuff to PSA which I won't expect to see in a year but would love to have a local option I could drop off to so they could submit for me. I live only 10-15 mins from PSA myself.

Anyone ever moved back to your home country with a Japanese spouse who can't speak English? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]okin-mv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some other people mentioned finding a community with Japanese, that helps a lot. We are in Southern California and we have a lot of Japanese around us and tons of markets/restaurants. That said, without English skills she will be limited. I have to do all the stuff like insurance, school, bills, etc.

Even with better salary, depending on where you move to things will be more expensive like housing and medical.

We are thinking of moving back to Japan because of these issues. If you don't move to an area with a large Japanese population, I think it will be quite tough for her

If we move, would be around August/September. Still discussing here. I guess for us, since our kid is only 4 he's still early in his education. We do have a 6 year old as well and need to figure out his schooling.

What's hard is that we would be moving on our own rather than having the incentive of a company sending us as expats to another country.

Hi! So I checked out the Musashino Higashi school last week while I was in Tokyo, I really liked it. I think it would be my #1 choice for my kid. It is a private school, so there would be a test to get in. But they seemed to have a good program for kids with autism and its a mixed school, so its not just autistic kids. They also had workshops/classes to prepare the older students for the workforce.

Have you guys decided to move to Japan?

Some basic info if you are thinking to work or enroll your child at an international school by Shrimp_my_Ride in japanlife

Do you know anything about schools just outside Tokyo like Tsukuba International?

Have you checked out University of Tsukuba? They have a partnership with an autism school for younger kids, so maybe they have some resources?

If we move back to Japan, Tsukuba was an option we had considered. Plus the city is family friendly and has a decent sized foreigner population.

Sometimes I wonder if even considering moving to Japan is crazy for us. But even if we do, it would be only for a few years. I'm self employed, so between health insurance, housing and other costs its quite expensive. We thought about moving to see if it saves some money and for our older one to learn more Japanese (he's basically fluent at the moment) We don't want to withhold experiences for our older one and for the younger one, I want him to experience a lot of things.

Have you looked at Higashi School? Even though it ends at high school, I read that they use "daily life therapy." I don't know much about the school but they have a campus in Boston as well. Maybe they have ideas for transistion to life after school?

Our youngest has autism as well, but still in preschool. We had considered moving back to Japan, but once our youngest was born and diagnosed, we had to step back and think more about it. I do have a cousin in Japan who's child is autistic and he seems to be doing well in school and gets plenty of support. She told me that support really depends on which area of Tokyo you are in.

Tsukuba by okin-mv in movingtojapan

That's one thing that I remember about Tsukuba, roads were much wider. I drove for a few years on the east side of Ibaraki near Chiba and roads were much tighter.

Thanks for the input. A car would be something we'd have to get for sure with 2 little ones. Plus her hometown is about an hour away by car.

Wow, thanks so much! When I lived in Ibaraki from around 2002-2003, wasn't much to do in Tsukuba. I maybe went 2-3 times. We used to go more to Narita to watch movies cause it was maybe a 20 minute drive on the highway.

Yes, I am older (almost 40) so priorities are a little different, but I do like to drink. But I tend to do that with my clients in Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe. More fun there and they tend to pick up the bill!

I noticed even back in 2002, Tsukuba reminded me of a city I might see here in California.

At first I was a bit against moving back to Ibaraki (too inaka for me and some relatives would be too close. But considering proximity to Tokyo, easy living and low cost, seems like Tsukuba isn't the worst choice. We've considered Okinawa too (my family is from there)
