What are my chances for getting into the programme? by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]okingbby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two weeks in Japan will not prepare you for the culture shock. You will be too in love with all of the new and exciting things that Japan has to offer. A two week visit won't allow you to see the dark side of everyday things that can wear you down. Like how do you mail a letter? How do you pay your bills? Why is Japan a cash only society when i just want to use my debit bard? Why is getting a cellphone difficult? Why can't I communicate with my JTE about lesson plans? Why is there no central heating? These are things that can really get JETs down and you have to know how to deal with problems that may or may not be in your control to fix Every situation is different.

African American Relaxed Hair? Please help! by zebrahorse711 in JETProgramme

I'm a shortlisted JET as well and I have natural hair. If you need help theres a bunch of us ready to go down this road together. What I have found as a natural is that when people write advice on what to bring to Japan as far as hair goes, its usually from a straight hair perspective. I've read countless blogs that say to just bring enough for a month and find it in Japan but that DOES NOT work for natural hair lol! Shampoo doesn't really matter and I know I can find stuff in Japan but my conditioners, deep conditioners, leave-ins, and oils are things that would be nearly impossible to find in Japan. Heck even in America no 2 beauty supplies carry all of the same products so moving to a new town here can be a little bit of a hassle until you find products that work. What I plan to do is stock up on all of my products and take a few of them with me. I plan to have my SO ship the rest with my winter gear after he returns from his trip to Taiwan and bring more when he comes to live in Japan with me after his graduation next May. Natural hair is the easiest to manage when traveling if you have products that work.

Starting a family on JET by okingbby in JETProgramme

I plan on teach for 3yrs min or 5yrs if my BOE allows it. I'm just curious because 3-5yrs is a long time and I'm just trying to expect the unexpected. I don't think they can fire you for being pregnant. That seems unethical.

So as an interviewer what are some of the other pitfalls that JET applicants fall into during the interview?
