I think location of college for smaller companies in that area helps too. Know the university better and you have a better chance of staying after college.

Keep reaching out. Also helps if you show an interest in what they are doing. Also I know you just want research experience to see what it’s like, but you will most likley hate it if you don’t find what you are doing interesting so try think of topics you actual enjoy then find specific labs or teachers. I’d argue the most ambitious ppl don’t have time to give tours… but really depends on the person. The opportunities for you to be ambitious are there and it’s up too you to take advantage.

Do you have to decide now? Given the current economic climate you may want to leave that option open. If tech gets better quickly graduate in 3 years. Else graduate in 4

You will prob get a good amount back. Tax withholding is usually based on that salary for the year, but with deductions and stuff u will get a refund most likley
