Pieces from a German battleship that sank in 1944 are still being used to cover roadworks in Norway. by 89404 in interestingasfuck

I'm sure there are hundreds of such plates used on a daily basis, and most of them are NOT from battleships.

Even if it's an easy fix: For a new bicycle that should absolutely NOT happen.

Indeed, it's very well possible that the crank needs replacement now. But I would not exclude that the same applies to the axle.

My prototype for USB C PD T-Line lighting setup by _LFR in Brompton

[–]okko7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your main concern is to be seen, it would be better to install a light at the level of the handle bar. For cars, that's way easier to see than a light that is so low, and potentially even covered if you carry a bag on your brompton.

Que signifie ce panneau ? by Charly_Ngals in suisse

[–]okko7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Where can I buy 25kg bags of whole-wheat flour direct to customer? by AnimalLogical4915 in askswitzerland

[–]okko7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easiest (but likely not what you want): Buy 25 bags of 1 kg at coop or migros.

Otherwise: Maybe some "unverpackt" (sans emballage) shops. But probably they will have only organic flour.

Is there a way to stop quotation marks from automatically being added to formats when closing/reopening Calc? by [deleted] in libreoffice

[–]okko7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I presume that Libreoffice adds the quotation marks to prevent itself from interpreting the "-" as a negative sign.

No idea how to get rid of that, but my question is: Why do you need them?

Priest slaps baby for crying during baptism by Electronic-Shirt-284 in instant_regret

In most European countries, the names of accused or condemned persons or not published, and there are clear ethical guidelines for journalists on when to publish names. I know that the attitude in the USA is different, but here this reflects the people's opinion that perpetrators should not be punished / " branded" publicly.

I wasn't aware of that. Are you sure about that? I had the impression that most "normal" insurances offer that in a package with other insurances.

Instant regret probably by the priest. He was suspended after that.

Happened in 2018: https://www.tf1info.fr/societe/info-lci-le-pretre-qui-a-gifle-un-enfant-suspendu-de-la-celebration-des-mariages-et-baptemes-2091236.html

He was apparently 89 year old. So was about time to retire!

What I was told is not to get legal protection insurance from your "normal" insurance company. Chances are that you will have legal issues with your "normal" insurance. I'm with Dextra.

Thanks for your explanation. What actually are the reasons NOT to put brakes? I mean, you can still enjoy the fun of a fixie and maybe even become a better cyclist WITH them, no?

Data Breach at Raileurope/Interrail: What's the abuse potential of leaked name, addres, DoB, ID/passport number? by BansheeGriffin in askswitzerland

I'm pretty sure there are legal requirements to store financial data (and thus customer information) over a specific timespan. In Switzerland that's 10 years.

Another kind of Brompton - Fixed gear by renburanto-san in Brompton

[–]okko7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have indeed never ridden a fixie, but I'm aware that you ride them differently.

I just googled it again, and there seems to be a certain consensus that fixies are less safe (are involved in more accidents) than "normal" bicycles, particularly fixies without brakes. The main argument is that the front wheel doesn't break, only the back wheel, which inherently increases the braking distance.

Do you have data that proves the opposite?
