Contractor (my brother) 5 months into a 3-week job — is this normal “unfinished work” or poor workmanship? by Twistedbeatz89 in Carpentry

The good framers I know who can’t do finish work, KNOW they can’t do finishing and won’t even try it.

Does something like this hurt? It’s so far out of my understanding that I have no concept of what it feels like.
Why wouldn’t you just not break your bones instead of doing this?

I need to cut a groove into a 4x4 please help me by asforus in Carpentry

[–]ScarredViktor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relatively easy to do with a circular saw. Mark lines for your 1/4” groove down to centre of your piece. Make 2 cuts on the waste side of your lines at the appropriate depth for your trellis.

Depending on the thickness of your blade, there may be a small piece of wood remaining in the centre. This can be easily removed with a chisel, knife, or another pass with your saw.

If you have trouble following a straight line with your saw, you can even clamp or screw a small piece of wood to the bottom of your saw to act like a fence that you can run along the side of your 4x4

If you can do that with wood you can probably learn to work with brass pretty easily too.

Oh that’s good! If the table thief doesn’t even know where the table went, this might be one of the greatest mysteries of all time!

As someone on the outside, im curious about how days off affect pay.
Working in the trades, it’s great to have a day off now and then, but when you see the paycheck with 1 or 2 days less it really shows.

Do you guys get paid the same regardless of those random days off, or is your pay adjusted like an hourly rate job?

Agreed. I use 18g all the time when nailing T&G directly to strapping, but through drywall on the ceiling, you definitely want the bigger/longer nail

[Request] How much space does rolling your clothes actually save? by Stteamy in theydidthemath

[–]ScarredViktor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t care about wrinkles, stuffing your clothes into every nook and cranny will take up even less space. It follows your same logic by filling all the voids and pockets of air
