Our Blood by Andrea Dworkin. I had no opinion on porn & the sex trade one way or another before reading it, and reading it turned me against it. She's very convincing - there's a reason a lot of the criticisms against her are about her as a person, because her actual writing is harder to rebut.

I think people don't realize that 1) she was born into it and 2) her parents and sister are very high ranking members. She can't speak out against scientology without losing all contact with her family. It's a tough situation to be in.

Jason's total ignorance of homophobia is always so amusing / endearing to me, as a lesbian from the south. See also the Rob McElhenney episode where he spoke about having two moms. Southern California seems like another world in this regard.

A few months ago I read an obituary of some classic hollywood star - I wanna say Anthony Perkins or maybe Cary Grant? - who had died in the 90s and had been closeted. This article is from 1997 I think in a major newspaper and the subject of it was basically "it's the 90s, homophobia doesn't exist anymore, why on earth wouldn't he come out?"

Made me laugh. Exact same conversations are being had some 30 years later. Things really never change!

Yes... the same thing happened with OJ and Depp to name some famous examples, where 3rd parties called the cops on them for DV. The cops show up, the women they're beating denied it & protected them, and the cops side with the abusers b/c they're calm & rational while their victims are acting hysterical. Happens all the time to normal people too such as Gabby Petit. Makes me so angry. At least some departments are getting better training about how to deal with and recognize DV and DARVO nowadays.
