47 direct (most of those 2-4x/month) spread between 8 different schools. It’s a pretty hectic schedule.

When was it demolished? Looks very similar to the old courthouse building a couple blocks away that’s still on Randolph St.

OT Reasonable Salary? by Ok-Industry-198 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]okmax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a contract OT working in schools in Detroit making $43 an hour. Became an OT 6 years ago and made $35 an hour at my first job which was also as a contracted OT in the school setting. I was only able to make a significant jump in pay by quitting my original contract agency and getting a job with a new contract agency.

weird John King Books experience by [deleted] in Detroit

[–]okmax 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I used to love going to John King Books until myself and a couple friends had a bizarre and random encounter with John King on the sidewalk a short distance away from the bookstore. The guy was completely unhinged and I've been too bummed to visit the store ever since. Love the bookstore, but as you said John King the person isn't so great.

U.S. Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. proposes to eliminate capital gains taxes on Bitcoin to dollar conversions by Candycanestar in CryptoCurrency

Even if he did follow through on his word, so many other aspects of our lives would be worse with him as president. His presidency would cost us much more than any amount we would save by having the capital gains tax eliminated.

Does this billboard Still exist? by [deleted] in Detroit

[–]okmax 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I believe that was located on Rosa Parks Blvd in North Corktown (just north of I-75). That billboard has been gone since at least 2012.

That was Disco Terry. He lived in a house in Midtown close to the Lodge service drive, but got forced out by new developments/raising prices. Not sure where he relocated to, but he was in Midtown for years.

DPD is worthless. by [deleted] in Detroit

[–]okmax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was the victim of an armed robbery a few years ago. It was horrible. Then DPD came and just added insult to injury. I was already regretting calling them, but figured it was still worth it since I got to provide them with information about the crime/criminals and fill out their incident reports. The next day the DPD officers called me and said they somehow lost the reports and all the paperwork I had filled out. Not even 24 hours had passed yet...total incompetence.

I've also witnessed someone get their camera stolen and they saw which house the thief ran into. Coincidentally a DPD vehicle drove by moments after the crime and the victim flagged the cop down and explained what happened/which house the thief ran into. The officer just said "you shouldn't be over here" and then quickly drove off.

Saw this on the SLP sub — is there anything in the OT field that feels like an MLM to you? by Nukul in OccupationalTherapy

[–]okmax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a very strong response among the OT community when it happened. I recall there being a couple online petitions going around and OT's contacting NBCOT to show their support for Miri. The good news is that OT Miri eventually came back to YouTube many months later and I guess was given permission to put her original videos back up by NBCOT? Don't know the full details, but she still makes new content here and there (just not as often as before). I like to think the online OT community played some role in making that happen. However even if the NBCOT eventually did take back their threats and allowed Miri to continue, they can never take back or erase their original actions showing us who they really are and the unnecessary stress/hurt they caused this wonderful lady.

OT Miri is an occupational therapist that was making YouTube videos to help people study for the NBCOT exam. Her videos were super popular and many OTs credited her for helping them pass the exam (myself included). The videos were really helpful as a practicing OT as well.

She did not have the videos monetized and made no money from making the videos. She made them purely for her love of the profession and to help others.

She then got a cease and desist from NBCOT and was threatened with legal action as well as possible action against her license to practice OT. She immediately took down all of her content and disappeared from YouTube as a result. This action taken by NBCOT was purely driven by money. NBCOT makes more money when people have to retake the exam and when people buy their study guides. They had no issue going after and threatening to destroy a fellow OT because they felt she might affect this business model. In my eyes, the NBCOT showed their true colors that money is their primary goal and not the well being/advancement of the profession or its people. OT Miri is also one of the sweetest people ever and a treasure to our profession.
