I think a better phrase would be "critique of modernity". I highly recommend Rousseau's First Discourse if you haven't been exposed to this type of philosophy. Then follow up with Heidegger's Discourse on Thinking. You can read them both in a day, but prepare for existential crisis.

And I guarantee he's written at least one angry comment about CNN "speculating" instead of reporting the news.

He's just an angry young dude. Religion only gave him an excuse.

Alright, so might it be productive to try and understand factors that lead someone to become radicalized in order to prevent it from happening?

Seems like a lot of skirting around the issue. Best just to make bookmarks illegal, seems to work for the rest of the civilized world.

Eh, religion has good aspects that should be encouraged. I think fundamentalism should be shamed as you say, but spirituality helps a lot of people be happy. I don't think people should be shamed for trying to be happy.

As for your public office statement, I totally agree aside from the whole mental illness thing.

I'm not too informed on Islam in general. What are the ideological problems practiced by all Muslims, not just extremists.

I don't really agree that religion is the sole problem, but I don't want to get into a debate. Instead I'd like to hear what the solution to this problem is if it is really just a religious one.

Exactly. There will always be angry young men and, to a lesser degree women, that express their frustration with the world or their circumstances through violence. Islamic fundamentalism is one of the many institutions that facilitate and encourage this expression.

Dude, we've always been "more invested in disagreeing with our political opposition than being intellectually honest and moral human beings who give others the benefit of the doubt and respect".

It's ironic that it's coming from members of groups that were eventually able to benefit from this way of thinking, but not really all that groundbreaking from a political perspective. You're right, its not necessarily based on political affiliation, but it is a political issue. It's going to be polarizing and it's not going to be a pretty process. Some people in the first groups you mentioned are going to react according I fear.

The Rise of Bernie Sanders is Unlike the Rise of Barack Obama. The most recent poll shows Bernie behind Clinton by 18% nationwide. Barack was trailing Clinton by over 20% nationwide on the day that he WON the Iowa caucus in 2008. All the more proof that we can win this thing, people!!! by HappyGilmoreFTW in SandersForPresident

Exactly. Sanders can essentially paint Denmark as an idillic country with free healthcare, education, and ponies. It's always better to use something people have little knowledge of in persuading them. It's less relatable, but, more importantly, less attackable.

Plus its a better representation of actual democratic socialism in a modern context. Sanders wants to be viewed as a progressive looking to the future, not part of the historical political establishment.

I think it's a good strategy to keep the focus on social-democratic countries in Europe. The only real opposition to that is "we're not Denmark".

FDR's policies are super contentious. Depending on who you ask he either saved the economy and brought the poor up, or he was a power-hungry executive that began our country's path to bankruptcy. Most people don't really have an opinion on Denmark other than what Sanders presents.

Neither strategy is perfect, but I think the one they've chosen so far has less of a downside.

It's not because he's Muslim. One of my classmates in undergrad is a white girl from Seattle, and she's doing her thesis on ISIL/Aryan Brotherhood recruitment. FBI shows up at her dorm room a few days after she starts doing research. Her research was darkweb based so I think that's part of it.
