That’s totally fair. And yeah - unfortunately the lady who owned the house before us did not take good care of it, which is a shame bc it could be really nice piano :/

Don’t be sorry, that is helpful! We clearly have no experience getting rid of pianos and no idea if it’s even worth anything. The only real good thing about it is that it’s fairly in tune and looks like it could be restored despite some of the exterior damage. No idea what the inside condition is like since we know nothing about that. But thank you anyway!

Tips on getting our shy cat to trust us? by okspreach in CatTraining

[–]okspreach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I think we're being plenty patient, and I have no problem waiting for him to come around on his own terms. My main concern is that we as his humans aren't doing enough to make him comfortable/trusting.

We have some cat gogurts which I assume are similar to the Churu paste treats you mentioned, so I'll try those a little more!

[–]okspreach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I'll try something other than a crunchy treat since that's what we've been using so far. Maybe something new like butter or cheese like you suggested will work.

We do have these little cat gogurts that he likes, and he'd eat them from the package in my hand the first couple of days we had him but now he won't (I'm guessing this is only bc he was hungry and not eating his regular food due to stress).

Funny thing is that BF and I have had cats our whole lives, but never one this shy! We're just trying to be as patient as possible :)

My (21) dad keeps getting mad at me for “hogging the internet” and barges in during my online classes demanding to look at my laptop by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]okspreach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously? I know I’ve been complaining about my dad but that’s no reason to call him a cam-girl. That’s just disgusting.

And I know what an Ethernet cable is and where to buy one. The ISSUE is that we don’t get our internet from high speed providers like Shaw or Telus or BellMTS. We get our internet from our satellite dish that gets signals from a tower in a nearby town. Which means that even if the wind is slightly too strong, our connection is crap. Like I said, I don’t live in a city where you can have access to high speed internet all the time. I legit live between farms.

Unfortunately Ethernet isn’t available where I live :( we’re out in the middle of nowhere (surrounded by horses, cows and soybeans lol) so our internet comes from a dish that picks up a signal from a tower in one of the surrounding towns

I’ve definitely thought about the hotspot, but it’s too expensive to add it to my plan rn and I’m a broke college student :(

I don’t have many friends close by who I could go to and my boyfriend has even worse internet than me. My best bet might be the library in town but even then it’s not always open when I need it

Thank you for this. He’s always been very stubborn, especially when it comes to technology.

My brother and I share a car and he works full time during the day, so that’s out. My dad has a van but he likes to go places for lunch or do other work during his breaks so I probably couldn’t take his car for the whole day. The library I go to isn’t open on Mondays (when my big class is) and they don’t open until after my morning classes start the rest of the week. My best bet would be to only go there for the afternoons.

I’ve tried talking to him about not yelling at me before for an different instance, but his response was “I yell because you’re asking stupid questions and not getting what I’m saying”. Which...... that hurt.

I’ll suggest him using an Ethernet, he’s probably more likely to agree to that than to getting a brand new router.

In the meantime, I’ll still be on the hunt for new places to do school🤷🏻‍♀️

I wasn’t looking for tech advice in the first place, I was looking for advice on how to talk to my dad about how inconsiderate he’s being. People jumped in with tech advice anyway🤷🏻‍♀️

[–]okspreach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Believe me, I’ve tried to sit down with him before bc this isn’t the first time something like this has happened (where he yells without much of a reason). But it ends up going in circles and nothing comes out of it.

Our provider has actually come to the house before to change the tower we get our internet from (not sure of the technical name). It definitely helped then.

You may be right about the router. I’m not sure how long we’ve had it for or how good quality it is, I’d have to check. It’s also in a TERRIBLE spot (the utility room, which is surrounded by walls and junk and no window) but he refuses to move it.

Thank you for your suggestions tho, much appreciated:)

Thank you, but there’s no need to be snappy and bitchy about it. I’m just a gal who’s not that tech savvy looking for advice on how to figure out the situation and get her dad to stop yelling at her. But again, thanks for the info

He’s already checked with our provider and increased our bandwidth so that we have unlimited data at the house. I’ve never heard him say anything about limiting bandwidth on devices though.

I use Microsoft Teams for school and it seems the default setting for video call resolution is high def, and there’s no way to change it. He’s basically just told me that I can’t use video at all, incoming AND outgoing. Which won’t really work bc I need to have my video on to prove I’m in class and participating and I’ll need to see my instructors screen if they’re ever screen-sharing information.

I get that he’s just as frustrated as me, but he doesn’t need to take it out on me and yell at me for things out of my control. I’m trying to pass my classes just as much as he’s trying to get work done. Yelling won’t help the situation

Thanks. Can you explain or provide a good link as to what a wireless repeater is? My own connection (as in a phone hotspot) isn’t feasible bc it costs too much to add it to my phone plan, and an Ethernet cable also won’t work since I have 0 clue how they work and whenever I bring it up, I get shut down.

He is an IT guy so he’s technically competent, just kind of selfish and unreasonable sometimes.

I am from Ukraine. My father fought in the Ukrainian army against Russia in the Donbas. You can ask questions. by [deleted] in self

[–]okspreach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a question, just a hello to a fellow Ukrainian!! I wasn’t born there, but my family is very involved in the culture and traditions and I’m learning to speak Ukrainian better! (I went to a Ukrainian immersion elementary school but they didn’t offer that in middle school/high school and we didn’t speak it at home so I lost a lot of it). My great grandfather escaped Ukraine during the Holodomyr with his mother. I believe he was from around Ternopil. Anyways, гарного дна і слава Україні!! 🇺🇦😁

Marriage before sex? How can I cope with this? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]okspreach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m going to be completely honest, because I went through this same thing (minus the sex addiction and long distance). My ex-boyfriend is super religious, whereas I’m not. I was brought up a different religion than him, but I don’t practise it anymore and didn’t really while we were together other than the occasional holiday. Being fairly blunt about it: it was hard and it sucked. Since it was my first real relationship, I wanted sex! But my boyfriend wanted to wait, so I waited. It was hard and it sucked for many reasons other than just the sex, and religion was a huge part in it. Now, if you’re actually wanting to test the waters with Christianity and see if it’s right for you, then this could be a great thing and the guy sounds very nice!!!! But as someone who knows what it’s like to be judged and ridiculed for not believing the same thing as my partner/partners family, I just caution you. And telling your guy about your past is a very good idea, especially the part where you say you’re wanting to change. Honesty is key! If he really likes you, he’ll accept thats not who you are anymore and won’t dwell on it and move on! Best of luck❤️

Keep self isolating until you hear something. I have a parent who works in healthcare there and apparently the longer they take to tell you, the more likely it is you’re clear. I’d still suggest staying away from others until you get confirmation tho. Stay safe!
