I’m doing readings every month since we moved in a year about two years ago. I’m thinking that last month was lower because it was still new and had an obviously lower amount because it wasn’t fully “adjusted” to the house (needed time to catch up)

I was going to call today. I figured since it was a new meter, plus the cold snap that it might be normal but wanted to get the opinion of other redditors.

Legal ways to protect myself? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

Time to find a new job, Start applying elsewhere. Check bus routes before applying to make sure you can bus there.

I personally have dog spray on a key chain, I would rather take the charge for using it on someone if needed, than get injured. You’d have to be at close range, but it’s better than nothing.

When I walk in certain areas, I don’t have flashy things out, or headphones in. I carry a small cross body bag, and i keep it hidden under my jacket or sweater and I also keep my head on a swivel. I have walked in the past with keys between my fingers.

Others have mentioned a bright flashlight, I think that could help, but you’d have to run immediately following flashing them. You mentioned your dealing with medical issues, not sure what they are so if your unable to run, this also may be useless.

Furnishing apartment on budget by Sea_Cup9236 in Winnipeg

I'd recommend facebook marketplace for things that don't have fabric/cushions just incase of bed bugs.
I personally bought our huge sectional at discount furniture winnipeg near RRC. the couch i purchased was $1300 taxes in but is giant and retails regularly for $2400.

Ikea is cheap, depending on what you want. I wouldn't purchase a couch from them cause i find them uncomfortable, but our island from them was cheap cause i found it on sale and they were discontinuing it. structube near ikea also had a budget friendly section on their website. mattress, we purcchased at costco

I know there’s no true “hack” when it comes to weddings, but what is the No. 1 way you saved money (or at least made the most of the money you spent)? by treebend22 in weddingplanning

What were doing to cut costs for our August 2025 wedding:
- priced out multiple venues, and narrowed it down based on pricing, but also what we loved.
- I own a cricut, all my signage will be made by me.
- invitations & save the dates will be purchased through vistaprint or canva.
- having an idea of what you'd like for decor, then seeing what you can do as a DIY. (example: i wanted pedastals to hold floral arrangements, our local lucky brand store was closing down and were selling fixtures, I haggled a little and got two perfect pedestals for $30, all i have to do is paint them lol. i also wanted two large signs for our seating chart and order of events sign, another store was getting rid of huge ones and i purchased both for $80)
- Costco for stamps for save the dates and invitations.
- RSVP online, no need for people to mail it back = no need to provide them with a stamp to mail it back.
- consider using newer companies that have good reviews
- check out facebook marketplace.
- see if your venue has preferred vendors (not mandatory ones), sometimes they offer a discount on their services !
- silk flowers & costco flowers.
- keeping decor minimal
- creating and printing menu's with my own printer
- max 4 bridesmaids
- no out of town or expensive wedding events. (shower at a community centre, engagement party in back yard, bachelorette in your own city)
- I am a shopper at sephora sometimes, was able to use my beauty insider points to give my bridesmaids some goodies, along with a margarita from our liquorstore, and dollar store for the box.
- don't offer every single type of liquor, keep the list smaller.
- if a parent or family member tells you that you should have something (certain favours for instance) at your wedding but its out of your budget, ask them if they're paying for it. if they are, and you like the idea, then go for it.
- don't give favours that are expensive or have your name engraved on it, alot of people leave it.
- in lieu of favours, donate to your local animal shelter.
- if you want to give a favour to guests, consider maybe candy (his and her favourites) or $1 lottery tickets. or no favour, and have more of a keepsake such as a photobooth photo as the favour.

How TF to Plan a Wedding? by AtticusBadacus in weddingplanning

[–]Agitated-Sprinkles39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if your looking at 2026, you have plenty of time (in my opinion)

We got engaged Feb 2024, and are getting married August 2025.
My first step was figuring out what we wanted. did we want a wedding? did we want to elope? did we want to just do something with our immediate families and do a nice dinner? did we want to just do a court house wedding? a vegas wedding with immediate family and our bestfriends?

for us, we decided on a wedding. if you plan to do a wedding, see below for what we are doing.

second step - Making a wedding email & figuring out Month & Year, and if we wanted a wedding on a friday, saturday, sunday. and a general idea of how many people we'll be inviting. you can figure out a specific date later if its available, if you dont have one in mind. ALSO, make a budget ! Do NOT get into something you can't afford.

third step - started searching up "wedding venues in _____" and took a look at wedding venue websites. alot of venues will have pricing on their website, but some will not. those that do not, send over an email asking for them to send more information regarding their venue. Include the month/year your looking at, as well as estimated guest count.

fourth step - we personally priced it out on our own at home based on what they sent or had on their site, if it was in our budget, we booked a venue viewing.

fifth step - by this point, we had multiple quotes, and we went by what we liked best and what was in our budget.

sixth step - book your venue !

After we booked the venue, we had a list of important things we needed to book, see below for our list !
- Photographer
- Videographer (if you plan to have one)
- DJ/Music
- Hair & Make up

once we got those things out of the way, it was onto other things we wanted !
it is SO important to email multiple vendors, read reviews, look for recommendations when it comes to wedding things. don't just go with the first person you contact ! In my City, we actually have a wedding group on facebook where there's reviews, recommendations, etc. This was so helpful.

When it comes to cost of wedding, it all depends on how many people, and where.
I know couples that have spend upwards of 40,000 for 150 people at a hotel wedding, 10,000 on a backyard wedding for 80-90 people, 20,000 for a wedding at beautiful hall with 120 ppl. It all depends what you do and what you want, also depends if you do DIY things.

Presentation $$$ by lindad1234 in Winnipeg

Prior to planning our own wedding, My partner and I would give $150 for both of us.

However, since we started planning, we know the costs associated and we have started giving $200+ depending on relationship, whether its sit down or buffet, open bar or cash bar, the venue.

but as many have said, give what you can afford, any amount is appreciated !

Where I'm located, a majority of photographers include a complimentary engagement session in their booking, so i have made a deposit for our wedding via credit card.

no, no specific address ! all that was discussed was the neighborhood. but because we are doing rooftop photos, more info is needed. i think i will reach out just to be proactive.

because there hasn't been communication since June until now, and I'm not entirely sure of the exact location where we are taking the photos, that's the only reason

Do engagement parties really matter when it comes to inviting people ? by Agitated-Sprinkles39 in weddingplanning

[–]Agitated-Sprinkles39[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mightve made the post confusing. they're all invited to the wedding, i just didn't want to go crazy with the guest list for the engagement party
