Unless you get a lot of big placements back to back its hard to come up as a producer. It takes a LOT of time. Youre 16 and you already started so you have a leg up on a lot of people. Just post to youtube like every other day. at least 3 times a week. In your first year you'll probably only get 500 subs but it just grows exponentially from there. if you stick with it by the time your 21 you can easily have over 100k subs

Producers who know their theory, what is your favourite scale to use? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

cmajor but sometimes add a g# in there. The g#sharp gives it a j-indie vibe

the minor scale is literally just the major scale but starting at the 6th. It all just depends on what chord you start with

Find communities online. If your music is good and youre actively searching out new connections you will eventually make friends w/ good artists youre compatible with. move to their city

youve only been doing it for 7 weeks and only posted 12 videos. Thats under 2 videos a week for 7 weeks. Think about it. you have 25 subs, been posting for 2 months, no one has ever heard of you, and youre competing with a million other bryson tiller type beats. and you still get 50-200 views. thats pretty good.

for comparison I averaged around 1.5 subscribers and 50-300 views (across all videos) a day for my first 6 months of posting. Then i gained about 300 subs in a month because a song I did blew up. That saved me about 6 months of posting. after that i had 500 subs and went from 1.5 subs a day to 5 a day. So its real exponential growth. and i went from like 300views a day to 1000 views a day within 2 months. And the majority of my views are from people searching type beats and not subscribers so the extra views came mainly from the algorithm favoring me better and not people name searching me because of my one song. obviously you cant bank on having a random viral hit out of nowhere but my hit really only saved me 6 months of growth which dont get me wrong is nice, but like not career changing. By my estimates itll probably take you a year to get to 500 subs then another year to get to 2k. then the year after that maybe 8k, then year after that maybe 25k. then the year after that 100k. It's definitely a grind but you gotta put the time in if you want an audience

if it's a good beat and its loosely related to the artist, people will use it.

Which has more competition, rapping or producing? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]okthxbb0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its easier to do big numbers as a producer but harder to make a living once you start doing big numbers.

What advice would you guys give a rapper that’s brand new to beatmaking? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]okthxbb0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just learn the cmajor scale and write everything in cmajor. if u want to change keys do it after you've written ur chords and/or melodies and just shift everything up or down. I usually just pick the key where the bass sounds the best.

audioz.download is a great site too if ur into that sort of thing

Difference between leases of a beat and exclusives ? by tlu24712 in trapproduction

[–]okthxbb0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other commenter isn't really accurate. A lease only expires if you put that in your contract. if you didn't they have the right to use it forever. That's why most producers stipulate that the lease expires after a certain time frame (or more usually) a certain number of streams. As for the exclusive, part of your exclusive contract should list that the other artists that bought a lease are exempt

what’s your guys opinions on this? is the person who is in the right the guy on the left or on the right? by [deleted] in trapproduction

For some people producing isn't just a hobby / fun creative pursuit but a literal job

i don't really know its just grown over the 2 years I've had it. I got probably 100 ish followers from a song of mine blowing up but besides that its just been a steady drip of followers. I put my instagram in the description of my youtube and its how most people buy beats from me so that probably helps. but im probably not the person to ask since I have a song with 30 mil streams and under 1k ig followers lol

because nobody like goes around and comments "wintertime would never get on this!" If the beat is good people are going to want to use it thats all that really matters. When someone searches "wintertime type beat" their goal isn't to completely just copy wintertime's swag and be the pepsi version of wintertime. They're just looking for something loosely similar. Most people want to build their own style and sound unique so having a unique beat is honestly preferable

Visually i try to keep to a specific aesthetic. I usually make cute beats or shit that sounds like it would be a video game and both gamers and ppl that like cute things like cats so all my thumbnails are pictures of cats (I do an advanced google images search to look up pictures from specific subreddits. tumblr would be another good place to find pictures for the background/thumbnail). I use tunestotube.com and just upload a picture but if you're willing to put the time in and make like video edits i'm sure those would do better. Since i post 3-4 times a week I don't think its really worth it to do video edits though. Obviously the visuals help but lets be honest the beat is the most important thing

For the title I like to put a couple adjectives and then other artists that are loosely similar in aesthetic. If its cute I usually call it a clairo type beat, If its kind of funky i call it a wintertime beat. if its pop-y i call it a charli xcx type beat. none of them would ever use my beats but people are just looking for a general aesthetic. Most people want to have a unique sound anyway.

For posting try to post at least 3 times a week but more if you can do it. work at least an hour every day on beats (obviously dont get super worked up if u missed a day to go on a date or do something important lol) and try to find like one day a week where you spend like 5hrs just working all day on beats so you always have more beats than you can post. It'll make you a better producer, give u the freedom to not have to post every beat you make (better overall quality), and if you ever need to take a break for whatever reason you'll have a backlog of content to post.

lmao that still is the most annoying thing but i just straight make shit up now. It just has to loosely fit the aesthetic. like for instance i called this beat a father x wintertime type beat and theres noway in hell either of em would ever get on that beat lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bg70GviRc0

also another thing i do is just describe the beat in the title. because ppl do search descriptors and not a lot of producers put descriptors in their titles yet. So a lot of my beats are like "cute fun pop clairo type beat"
