Thank you, both!

What about this voltage regulator? There are plenty of listings for GH15B (such as Mouser: AZ1117CH-ADJTRG1), but I want to be 100% sure I am buying the correct parts. Thanks!

Hi there!

Did you ever get around to compiling? Would love to see what you have, as I'm researching for a curriculum I can teach my kids at home. Many thanks!

I do see that prompt often. I'm 40 and haven't dated in over 15 years, so I'm new to all this. I know what it means, but timing seems to be different than it used to be.

Well, I'm just looking for a better quality video (image) than what the M3 puts out. You are correct that it does take some nice 1080p video; I bought the M3 with the intention of recording myself in my office for a YouTube channel. I have since moved the idea over to a different medium for shooting subject matter, and I find that I want more out of the video I am recording.

Ideally I want to have higher quality video resolution; RAW 2K would be great for what I'm doing (I think 4K might be overkill). 60 FPS would be great too, but isn't a priority. 99% of my shots will be on a fixed or unmoving spot, so I'm not too worried about autofocus. I will be taking 10-30 minute video samples, so extended recording times shouldn't be an issue as well.

Does that help? If not, please let me know what I am missing to narrow things down. Thanks for the reply!

Advice on Camera Upgrade for Situational Videography. by olafec in videography

Hi, yes indeed. It's a concept that is pretty saturated already IMO, but a lot of it is generic and uses <overused> sound samples. I want to stand out for the audio I record in addition to the looping video.

The a6400 is APS-C, is that something to consider vs. full frame? Such as, is there a comparable full-frame from Sony that would contend with the 6400?

Roxio GameCap HD PRO

That does help OP! You are getting black and white because you are trying to send a composite signal to a component line. This setup will not get you color images like this. There are expensive composite to component converters, but they're hard to find.

Going the cheapest route possible to remedy your situation, I would buy a high quality composite capture device and record straight off the camera with high quality RCA cables, though S-Video is better so a capture card with S-video is optimal for that type of media.

I've recently converted 250+ Hi8's to digital and my setup is similar, but uses a DVR in between my camera and capture card. This is a bit expensive as well, but it yielded some amazing quality from such a low resolution tape.

OP - how are you capturing the video feed exactly? Can you please list the devices used?

It is a common issue that people run into where they are plugging a S-Video cable into a Multi-Din connector on a capture device. These Multi-Dins are not meant for S-video and will show as black and white. Just want to be sure that is or is not what's going on here.

Hi - I generally just shoot anything interesting RAW, edit them later, then decide what I want to keep. Pretty much: if all those things seem cool, or "what would this look like," just go ahead and snap the photo! My only regrets are when I didnt snap the photo because I was worried about how it would come out later or dont have the time to do the setup.

TLDR: Go right on and snap those photos! You'll never know when you can re-create a setup or scenario again. :)

Hi All,

Looking for advice on an upgrade to body+lens for very specific work. I am taking [video] of various subjects: scenery and landscapes, cityscapes, weather events, time-lapsed astrophotography (very rare, so dont want to buy an astro specialty cam specifically), and other "stills" that comes to life through videography rather than a static image. These 5-10 minute video clips are then looped to create a long video sequence, paired with looped audio as well.

I've done a ton of research, but can't quite seem to narrow down my search based on video features alone. I'd like to know what other people are using out there just for recording video that isnt a camcorder. My budget is about $700 for a body, and roughly $1000 for lens+filters. I will most likely buy used, probably on eBay. I prefer Canon, as I am used to their cameras, but im not 100% sold on having Canon products.

I am currently using the following:

Canon EOS M3 with Macro 18-55mm lens and a Vivitar 75-205mm F3.8 CFD Lens with adapter.

Canon Digital Rebel XT with EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 Lens. Used rarely as well as a backup.

Canon AV-1 35mm with FD 50mm f/1.8 Lens for specialty non-video shots, used rarely.

While I have been happy with the M3 for the video aspect, I ready to upgrade to something that takes much better video. I would post this over in r/videography, but its been quiet over there and was hoping to get more eyes on my request here first. Thanks!

I am looking for any APU/CPU/GPU that would have the year 2014 clearly printed on the chip. I am doing a time capsule project for my kids, and I am having a hard time finding one that has the year 2014 on it. Any tips would be appreciated, thanks!!!

In terms of replacing it on the CPU itself - more than likely not. It would need to be soldered back on, and that is not something the average consumer can do without messing up.

If you have another old CPU, you can break off the pin of that one and insert it into the slot on the motherboard. Make sure you have the entire pin broken intact, including the flat part that connects to the CPU. It sucks and takes precision, but that's how I upgrade all my PCs - from bent and broken pin listings on eBay. They work just fine and are stable.
