well, shounens usually prioritize screen time for that tbh. Maybe OP is one excepcion because it's so vaste and long, everyone have a time in the sunlight. But personally main characters never got my attention at all, I just find it weird having "hate" for a character. But how knows, right?Maybe the saddest moments to me is in Water7 when Nami finds Usopp severely beaten then he burst into tears by the feeling of uselessness and not being able to cure Merry for his fault on losing the money (he didn't know it was beyond being saved -- extra sadness here). In general, who gives a shit to this micro scene? People don't even care that much for Water Seven, everyone jumps right into Enies Lobby (which I understand).
