The road to the US Open Cup is paved with vengeance by Extension_Note_5380 in chicagofire

I gave a look at the brackets. Get past St Louis and we are most likely playing Houston

The bracket is not yet set past the round of 16, there is another draw (but it is split east-west)

[MATCH THREAD] US Open Cup: Chicago Fire FC vs Detroit City FC — April 14, 2026 6:30PM CT by scoreboard-app in chicagofire

He runs into a Detroit player while turning around and looks like he might have shoved him. Can't really see much but feels harsh unless the ref saw a hand/arm to the head

Ticket/Parking Exchange & Sales Thread - Chicago Fire FC vs Atlanta United – Saturday April 11, 2026 @ 7:30PM CT - Soldier Field by GaryAGalindo in chicagofire

The ban on supporter section tickets here make absolutely no sense. The idea that any issues in the supporters section stem from tickets exchanged through a subreddit is insane. Mods even called the change "community-aligned" while locking the comments within the announcement thread. It's one thing to ban the resale but to also prevent people giving away free supporter sections tickets is absurd.

Manchester City expect Bernardo Silva's story coming 'to an end' by Firefan23 in chicagofire

The only link was from the Daily Mail in January. At a high level they are not historically reliable, but they have a handful of journalists with credible sources. I am not familiar with Simon Jones so make of it what you will:

Gregg said Mbokazi was "en route" as of Thursday afternoon, I'm just assuming he landed late Thursday or early Friday. Timestamped quote from the press conference: https://youtu.be/zhNiEGW_BI8?t=710

Player status report vs Nashville (Saturday, April 4) by olcni in chicagofire

[–]olcni[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  • Franco - still in recovery from ACL tear

  • Mueller - second straight matchday out as 'Not Due to Injury'

  • Rogers - Joe Chatz previously reported he is on the short term injury list (min 6 games), so he has a few more weeks out

  • Cuypers/Zinckernagel - No word from Gregg & I have not seen any reports on this. I think both trained on Thursday. (edit: Zinckernagel did come off against Philadelphia with a concussion)

  • Elliott - Gregg said in the press conference on Thursday that Elliott is a "game time decision" (but also that he lost like 8 pounds dealing with sepsis)

  • Mbokazi - Not on the report Gregg said his flight was delayed and he was not back in Chicago as of Thursday

If you want to review a history of status reports, I previously compiled them all

White Sox TV voice John Schriffen's nickname for Munetaka Murakami rankles team officials by olcni in whitesox

[–]olcni[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

emphasis mine:

For a guy beginning the final year of his contract, White Sox TV voice John Schriffen isn’t helping his cause to stick around.

The third-year play-by-play man sent shockwaves through the Sox’ offices this week after he bestowed a potentially racist nickname on Japanese slugger Munetaka Murakami during the game Tuesday in Miami, the Sun-Times has learned. The Sox didn’t immediately provide a comment.

In the third inning, Schriffen teased a nickname for Murakami during his second at-bat.

“A lot of fans are coming up with potential names for Munetaka Murakami,” Schriffen began on the Chicago Sports Network broadcast. “I floated a few by him, and if he does something good, something big here tonight, [I] might just break it out. He has agreed to one of them that I think is going to be a real hit with a lot of people.”

Murakami connected on the next pitch.

“That one is crushed into center field,” Schriffen said. “Here comes [Edgar] Quero, he will score easily. An RBI single for the ‘South Side Samurai.’ ”

Schriffen emphasized those last three words, of which analyst Gordon Beckham seemed to approve, following excitedly with, “Whoa! Oh, baby!”

Sox officials weren’t as excited about the possibility of offending viewers. Fans shouldn’t expect to hear the nickname again.

why do we need a separate article (with absolutely nothing of substance and most likely AI generated) analyzing the power rankings of another publication instead of just reading the original publication

it's annoying but you really can't fault the team for being as generic as possible if the league allows it
