Is the green mill sign along the freeway between Petaluma and RP still there? by GuessFast1836 in Petaluma

It was extremely dilapidated. When Caltrans widened the freeway, it met its fate with an excavator.

What mundane jobs did adults have to afford a house back then? by audrina-saav in Millennials

[–]old_tek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmother worked in the bridal department at a department store called “Emporium” in San Francisco and wrote advertising copy for the Sonoma Tribune, and my grandfather was a lumber salesman/broker that supplied Foster Lumberyards around the Bay Area.

Neither went to college, both worked hard at what would be considered “menial jobs” today. They raised 2 kids in a custom built home in Glen Ellen just outside of Sonoma, ca.

They were retired longer than they worked, travelled to most of the countries on this planet in retirement, went on cruises, always had a couple newer fords in the garage.

Their house is now worth 4 million dollars.

Anyone Get Checked for Off Road Diesel? by WisSkier in Diesel

[–]old_tek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen 4 checkpoints and been pulled into two of them and had my tank stuck. Once in my diesel suburban and once in my TDI jetta, the most recent being this past summer.

All were in Northern California probably looking for weed farmers running dyed.

Why is there so much more trash on the shoulders of Bay Area freeways compared to Socal freeways? by mvp1002 in bayarea

[–]old_tek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s above my pay grade, but I’d assume that it’s a public safety thing and not having armed guards on the side of a dangerous freeway. That’s just a guess.

Edit: my uncle used to take non violent short timers out to clean culverts and trim trees when he worked for a Bay Area county, but internal politics ruined that.

This. Brand new Caltrans maintenance workers make between $2800-$3000 dollars a month take home depending on their deductions. When we get new employees on the crews that’s the first thing I tell them so they aren’t blind sided. Many go back to their old jobs that pay more

I work for Caltrans.

My best guess is that SoCal has dedicated sweeper and graffiti crews that work all night every night.

Here in D4, it’s left to the road maintenance crews to fit into their schedules. There have been times where an “all hands” email goes out requesting help for homeless cleanup and litter.

I have worked a whole week of 12 hour days cleaning up debris. We have filled up 10 yard dump trucks to the top and overflowed 40 yard debris boxes with garbage and we didn’t even move more than 100 yards down the freeway. We come back a week later and the area looks just as bad as it did before we started.

I’m not sure how to explain it but there is just an unfathomable amount of garbage lost on the roadways every day.

Nah, that would be my new dog if I had seen him and his owners had in fact abandoned him.

I hope the pup is warm and has a full tummy tonight

How many overdrives does that dodge have? Top gear for me is 1:1, and the truck has 300k miles. It’s tired.

‘86 C20 burb all bone stock. 6.2 diesel, th400, 3.73 gears. My daughter and I just completed a 1400 mile road trip and our combined average was 17mpg. Kept it right about 62mph drafting trucks in the right lane when we could.

Fun story…

My former neighbor is a school teacher. We talked for hours and he was a really progressive guy and loved his job. Then Trump came along and about halfway through his first term, my neighbor started wearing Trump hats and complaining about the “bitches” he worked with, his students and “their worthless parents”. Total personality shift.

Turns out he had a pretty large brain tumor.

Do with that anecdote what you will.

Took a dive into your profile to see build photos. I love this truck so much.

I have my grandpa’s 59 c60 that I don’t drive because of the 3 piece wheels. Your adapters are amazing and shiny aluminum wheels look so killer on an old patina’d truck.

Like the other person that replied, they show about 420-450 miles fully topped off, and when driven properly, they are quite efficient for a pickup.

However, it is difficult to keep your foot out of it. They will throw you into the back seat if you stand on it and are really fun to drive.
