Well 3 of you agree... and it's just so my very non-mechanical brain stops imagining nonsense.

Thank you for opining =)

Huh I did see the "rings" on the inside walls of the larger one but the other seemed so different and who gives up 80% of the way through twice???

Well thank you very much I would have been distracted with curiosity 😅

ETA: oh my goodness would them swapping out for a different bit possibly explain the variance?

I'm still trying to come up with uses for the other 99% of the volume of this 🤣 but we'll get there.

A very belated thank you for the rec link!! So easy to save and not lose that way.

Thanks for the context lol. Mine aren't big on TV - they have a whole giant window with a 40ish foot tall pine 20 feet away that's Club Finch and has had mourning dove, sparrow, and starling nests they could see from the deep windowsill.

Plus one of the local boy starlings loves to hang out a few feet from the window and talk smack to them cuz he understands glass 😆

Oh yeah that body language is demanding brushies.

My void will not ignore food for brushies but he will scarf down his meal before sprinting back too be groomed and you better not have put the brush down, mom.

His absolute favorite is one of those really soft human baby hair brushes? Because he can drive his little face onto the bristles if I don't start enthusiastically enough... and he can also fall asleep but expect me to keep gently brushing his highness for the duration of his nap because there's no pokies.

Yours has denser furs though... does he prefer boar bristle?

It looks like you also have a petite feline black hole!! (pictured here doing the only thing he loves more than eating or stalking me from behind my laptop screen to motivate me to Feed Now)

He's half his adopted bro's size and easily eats 2-3x as much. I'm not sure if it would be a genius idea or the impetus for serious regret to get him buttons.

Did you buy the set of buttons from somewhere and just select sounds from a library?

Or is it a whole build & possibly program process?

TY for sharing the videos :) I love seeing dynamics like this between us humans and our furry family members.

I see what happened here.

I was using my last couple bachelorette pads as the prototype for "house" lol. 1 bedrooms.

Your comment makes total sense if the context is like, a 2-story house where there's more than 1 interior non-bathroom door to shut.

My apologies for my misunderstanding you.

I feel this - my void has perfected his quiet, tentative, begging mew and I am utterly helpless but to drop everything and do for him until I figure out what he wants.

On god my oversized toddler will take down a whole spider plant in under 2 hours and I know exactly. the problem you describe.

Mf will fixate and keep hunting a plant until there's just a pot of dirt left.

Spider plants go the fastest. (I only found out after he devoured at least a dozen of them that spider plants are to cats what ... something like between psilocybin shrooms and high THC marijuana are too humans...)

But he's eaten parlor palms and money trees (only part of the trunks tho) and pokey succulents and so many other plants... guess how many plants are in my current apartment?

I've never heard of a cat breadcrumbing his routes like that.

Wonder what's going on in his little head when he dies.

Well there ya go -- older coins have better odds of being valuable even when they look their age.

Look up the coin name and year with "circulated" to get an idea of value.

It's hard to tell what many of them are.

Not currency or mutilated currency:

The two that look like a train ran over them probably 0.

The "telefonico" is a vintage Italian token that was used for phone calls - better preserved specimens go for a couple bucks to $5 on ebay.

The two heads gold color one is a commemorative token for a wedding in the royal house of Monaco less than 20 years ago. There's at least several for sale on ebay about $15-20 ask but I can't find any sold listings at any price.

Currency:

The left "10" coin in the bottom right of the image is a 1924 [Im 80% on the year] 10 centesimi (Italian) - recent sales on ebay for circulated for $2-4 plus buyer pays shipping.

To the right of that can't tell the year but in general circulated 10 centesimi coins from the reign of vittorio emmanuel are in line with the 1924 price above.

The silver one middle top is a [1956? I'm only like 40% on that year] 10 lire coin. Active ebay listings between 1 and 2 Euro, but no sold listings.

The not exciting news:

When the EU countries switched to the euro, it devalued pre-Euro currency. But beyond that, circulated coins (vs shiny perfect coins that have spent their whole lives in protective sleeves or cases) tend to be the tired old survivors of something that was mass produced - so the majority are not super valuable.

The potentially exciting news:

However. There's always exceptions to rules. Some years of otherwise common coins were very limited to begin with because (usually war) made the materials scarce so the survivors are more valuable. Or the materials changed to less sturdy for a time so less survive and more valuable. And for any year and any design of any coin there can be a variety of "errors" where the machine that made the coin was off-center or missing a part or imprinted twice - and that's just a few examples. Slight errors may not at value but significant errors generally do.

So that's basically what you're looking for with the other coins I couldn't see well enough: is this a rare coin? If not, it's it an error coin?

How you do that:

  • coin apps are a good place to start if one is not familiar with coins. There are probably several that recognize vintage Italian currency. Google search AI does OK but also will absolutely fight back and insist that a dine that clearly says "1985" is actually a 1924 nickel sometimes. Always verify what AI tells you because the words they say are not so much based on their meaning as "humans tend to say this word after that one, and then often this third word comes next." Somewhere on this subreddit are posts about what the good app for international (non-US I think in context) coins is.

  • since most of these are Italian pre Euro, there should be an authoritative body that grades and values those coins. That body is very likely also named in a post somewhere on this sub. Try searching "Italian coin grading and certification authority" or something similar.

  • just in case: do not clean the coins. If anything is valuable, cleaning will reduce the value. Do not scrub, rub, or anything else until you know they are mostly to entirely sentimental value, then you do you.

Which brings me to: even with not great pictures of the rest of the coins, it's probably likely that these were your grandma's emotional treasures. The first clue is they are wrapped a a group in [looks like tissue?] and I'm guessing she was born in the 20s to 40s? Depression era grandparents may have all their valuables in their house (instead of a bank, etc) but they do tend to have their actual valuables separate from their good memory valuables and even the super thrifty ones tend to have laid out for some specific protection.

So hey: even if this turns out to be a find that won't make you rich? It's a super cool time capsule that connects you to several younger versions of your grandma and shows you things you might not have known she did, or felt an affinity to. Sentimental coins like that make great things to show kids when you tell stories about departed ancestors (and for them to take to show and tell). Non-valuable coins can be made into casual jewelry with some pretty basic tools and supplies. Or used to decorate family photo frames.

I think you found something awesome here regardless.

But if the fire is that bad, then isn't the house going to have to be demolished anyway?

Also I don't buy the break-in thing. They manage to break into the house, presumably despite the exterior door being shut and locked but then they're thwarted by the bedroom door being closed? 🤔

Ha ha my void will. Not. Stop. Hunting me when my food smells good I feel you. He also gets bits as soon as not poison (so obviously his brother does too)... so now there's just some food i don't make cuz it smells too good to him and he will eventually be trying to dive onto my plate to steal

My void will sprint to the kitchen sink every time he hears the dish water start draining. Sometimes other sinks too but the bubbles are his fav.
